There’s been no shortage of new ramen products this year, and I think it’s fair to say that a lot of them have been a little left-of-center. It makes sense, if you think about it: Ramen’s a pretty versatile product, and food companies have clearly figured out that it can be both branded and flavored in some, shall we say, unique ways. Thus, we’ve seen SpongeBob ramen, mac and cheese ramen, and peanut butter ramen popping up on our shelves. The wonders of modern food production will never cease, and if you’re exhausted by it, well, I don’t blame you.

So, it’s sort of a breath of fresh air to see a new ramen product come out that isn’t trying to do something totally new. Instead, it’s zeroing in on one of the key components of the dish. Let’s discuss.
Better Than Bouillon x A-Sha Foods’ Better Than Ramen
Yesterday, Summit Hill Foods, the company that owns the Better Than Bouillon brand, announced Better Than Ramen, a new at-home ramen kit developed with A-Sha Foods USA. The latter company, in case you need reminding, is known for its Taiwanese air-dried noodles; the former, of course, is known for its bouillon.
As such, you’ve got two manufacturers who focus on different specialties, coming together to make a new product – and there’s no surprise here that the ramen broth is a big feature. Better Than Ramen will come in two flavors: chicken and Tonkotsu-inspired pork. The noodles, meanwhile, will be A-Sha’s signature air-dried Meteor noodles, which contain 12 grams of protein per serving and are made with just three ingredients. “This collaboration breaks new ground as the first time a bouillon brand has launched a ramen broth base,” said Summit Hill’s VP of sales, Tripp Bradshaw, in a statement. “Better Than Ramen came to life through the creativity and collaboration of the Costco team, combined with the product innovation that Better Than Bouillon and A-Sha are known for.”
What’s That? Costco?
Yes, indeed. Better Than Ramen is a Costco exclusive and will be available in 10-pack multipacks (five chicken, five tonkotsu) at select locations across the Southeastern US. This will include all Costco locations in Florida, Georgia, North and South Carolina, Tennessee, Alabama, and Mississippi, and they’ll be available in Puerto Rico.
As for the rest of the country…well, folks, it doesn’t look like Summit Hill Foods has any plans to roll it out nationwide just yet, in either Costco stores or at other retailers. The good news, though, is that this ramen will travel…so if you’ve got some friends who are making a cross-state trip any time soon, time to pull in some favors.
