We Tried Target’s New Bloom Drinks

If there’s one demographic that’s been ignored in the field of energy drinks it’s Target moms. I’m not joking and I’m not mocking them. Legally speaking, with how often I find myself inside Target carrying a basket and a Starbucks Refresher looking for nothing in particular, I’m a Target mom. And that explains how excited I was when supplement brand Bloom announced a new line of sparkling energy drinks available only at Target. I bought the full lineup and tried them out on a particularly busy weekend trip to make sure I was truly putting them to the test. Read on for the juicy details of the new Bloom drinks.

Bloom Sparkling Energy Cherry Lime

Cherry Lime

Pros: I love any take on the duo of cherry and lime, and this was no exception. Rather than going for all-out sour or candy sweetness, Bloom leaned into the tartness you get from a real cherry.

Cons: I’ve definitely had worse versions of cherry lime, but I’ve also had better. This Bloom drink flavor is perfunctory. It’s a third tier cherry lime energy drink. But there’s no shame in third place—the bronze medal winners on Team USA still take home $15,000.

Bloom Sparkling Energy Peach Mango

Pros: As I was pulling this Bloom drink flavor out of my tiny hotel fridge, I was talking a big game to my roommates about how peach-mango is overdone, it never stands out, always a whelming experience. I was really beating this flavor down before I even tried it, and I paid for my hubris. This is the best peach mango energy drink I’ve ever had. More than anything, I loved how balanced the peach and mango flavors were in this Bloom drink.

Cons: I have no complaints. If you like peach-mango, you will like this. Even if you think you don’t like peach-mango, you might be surprised!

Bloom Sparkling Energy Raspberry Lemon

Pros: Much like the cherry in cherry lime, the raspberry in this Bloom drink flavor is very accurate. Think raspberry tea with a lemon wedge and you’ve got the flavor profile. We may never know what a true blue raspberry tastes like, but this definitely tastes like red raspberry.

Cons: Red raspberries aren’t my favorite flavor, but I can’t fault Bloom for my own preferences. This Bloom drink bordered on “too tart” for me; if that’s something you’ve experienced in citrus-flavored energy drinks before, maybe skip this one.

Bloom Sparkling Energy Strawberry Watermelon

Strawberry Watermelon

Pros: This Bloom energy drink flavor was 100% tart, not-quite-ripe strawberry. Bloom drinks as a whole definitely aim for “tart” rather than overly sweet. And most of the time, I found that to be a positive…

Cons: This was the exception to that rule. While it was certainly refreshing that Bloom didn’t leap to the standard uber-sweet candy flavor with their strawberry-watermelon flavor, my tongue was wincing by the end. And where is the watermelon? Did it get lost on the way to the can?
