Blue Bell ice cream is a big deal. Well, it’s a big deal for people who can actually buy Blue Bell ice cream. Here in L.A., we are bereft. I mean, what gives? California is exporting all its wealthiest and most frightening tech figures to Texas—don’t they want to give us anything in return?? Sheesh. Thanks for nothing.

The Sporked team did taste and rank a bunch of Blue Bell flavors last year, but that taste test took place at Sporked’s Winter White House, aka Ariana’s mom’s house in Florida. But when a new flavor comes out, we have to cross our fingers and hope a kind PR person puts some on dry ice and sends it our way. I’m so, so glad new Blue Bell Brookie À La Mode is one of the flavors that made it to Sporked HQ.

Blue Bell Brookie À La Mode Ice Cream

Pros: Where do I even begin? Okay, I’ll just tell you what it is: Brown sugar ice cream with chunks of brownie and chocolate chip cookie. The base is brilliant. It’s basically like sweet cream ice cream with a touch of warmth. It’s basic, but that’s by design, because the mix-ins are the focus. The chocolate chip cookie chunks are great—soft and chewy with a touch of salt—but I’ve truly never had ice cream with brownie chunks more delicious than the brownie chunks in this ice cream. They’re unbelievably fudgy. As the ice cream softens, they really start to read as fudge in a sundae. And you don’t have to dig around for anything. This tub is LOADED with cookie and brownie chunks. It’s one of the most addictive ice creams I’ve ever consumed (and I’ve consumed a lot).

Cons: This is a me problem, but I keep slipping into the kitchen for “one bite” of this Blue Bell ice cream and then realizing that I’m still standing there eating spoonful after spoonful, like, 20 minutes later. This stuff comes in a half-gallon container, so if will power is a struggle, go buy a pint of something way less delicious. This stuff is DANGEROUS (positive).

About the Author

Gwynedd Stuart

Howdy! I’m Gwynedd, Sporked’s managing editor. I live in Los Angeles and have access to the best tacos the U.S. has to offer—but I’m a sucker for a crunchy Old El Paso taco night every now and then. I’ve been at Sporked since 2022 and I’m still searching frozen mozzarella sticks that can hold a candle to restaurant sticks. Why you should trust me: I’ve been a journalist for 20 years (yikes), a consumer of food for 40-plus years, and I’m truly hard pressed to think of foods I don’t like (or that I can’t tolerate at the very least). Oh and one time I cooked my way through Guy Fieri’s cookbook and wrote about the journey through Flavortown. What I buy every week: Trader Joe’s Original Savory Thins. Fat free plain yogurt (usually Fage or Nancy’s). Honeycrisp apples. Sweet cream coffee creamer for my at-home Americanos. A frozen cauliflower crust pizza and some jarred mushrooms to top it with. Old El Paso Stand ‘N Stuff taco shells and Gardein Ground Be’f, even though I think “be’f” is a nightmarish contraction. Favorite ranking: Stouffer’s frozen dinners. I don’t own a microwave (I get my cancers the old fashioned way!), so I love taste testing things that I don’t really buy to eat at home. Least favorite ranking: Soy sauce. Don’t get me wrong, I love soy sauce—but consuming that much sodium in one sitting is probably illegal in some countries. Our frozen enchilada taste test was a close second; the smell of microwaved corn tortillas still haunts me.
