Slim Jim Just Dropped Buffalo Wild Wings Chicken Sticks and We Tried Them

Finally, I don’t have to leave the house to get the sweet taste of “Hot” on my chicken. Slim Jim has teamed up with Buffalo Wild Wings to slather two chicken sticks (no beef or pork blend here) with a couple of their classic wing sauces. While both flavors are hitting shelves now, the almighty meat stick manufacturer was kind enough to send over a few early boxes for us to review. Let’s make like Macho Man and snap into a couple Slim Jims.

Buffalo Wild Wings Buffalo Style Chicken Stick

Pros: The texture of this chicken stick is definitely easier to chew than other jerky and meat sticks. The flavor (past the first bite, which I’ll cover next) is pleasant and, per my lab rats’ opinions, authentic to the original sauce. This is a great addition to the Slim Jim lineup.

Cons: As someone with little spice tolerance, I was surprised to see that Buffalo is the “base” spice level. The first bite of Buffalo already had me coughing, while the remainder of the stick had the heat level I expected. I wonder if the oils ended up consolidating around one end of the stick inside the packaging after traveling vertically for so long. Or I’m just a wuss, who knows.

Buffalo Wild Wings Hot Chicken Stick

Pros: Again, the texture of this chicken stick easily puts it in the top tier of meat sticks I’ve had. While there isn’t as much “flavor” as Buffalo, the heat still keeps this interesting. The flavor profile of the Hot Chicken Stick was described to me by Slim Jim as having a “classic Buffalo profile with an added fiery, mouthwatering kick.” I can confirm: Hot is hotter than Buffalo, which means I did not have a great time. That said, I know that’s a personal preference rather than an objective truth. The spice-tolerant guinea pigs I fed these to were big fans of both sticks’ heat levels.

Cons: I do wish there was more flavor here beyond hot, but they understood the instruction of emulating Buffalo Wild Wings’ Hot sauce. Still…ow.
