Fast food chains are in the business of nostalgia. The most successful chains perform a highwire act when it comes to their offer: Keep things as they’ve always been and throw back to the favorites constantly, and put out new things at the same time. That’s why, for every new sandwich from the likes of McDonald’s or Burger King, there’s also a revival of a fried apple pie or a crown-shaped nugget being slid towards you over the counter. In with the old, in with the new.

BK’s doing both at the same time right now, testing new sandwiches and wraps that feel very similar to one of its most beloved old-school menu items. Unfortunately, you’ll have to be in California to try them.
Burger King Flame-Grilled Chicken Sandwiches And Wraps
A few days ago, Allrecipes reported that Burger King was testing six new menu items at select locations in Southern California, specifically around the Temecula area (although there have been reports of them popping up elsewhere in the country too, but those seem few and far between) – and all of them contain flame-grilled chicken. According to the publication and food blogger @chrisfrez, the chain is currently offering three Flame-Grilled Chicken Sandwiches and three Flame-Grilled Chicken Wraps, the former in Classic, Spicy, and Bacon & Swiss, and the latter in Classic, Spicy, and Honey Mustard flavors.
Now, flame-grilling (or at least the vibe of it) at Burger King is nothing new: The chain famously broils its burgers. Back in the ‘90s, though, customers had access to a flame-grilled chicken option, in the shape of the BK Broiler. This fan-favorite sandwich was Burger King’s first broiled chicken burger, and it was a big hit, to the point that people ask for the chain to bring it back to this day. Looks like it may have been listening.
Repeating History?
It’s worth pointing out, though, that Burger King has tried to recapture the vibe of the BK Broiler before, and it hasn’t quite stuck the landing – and in fact, some of these new menu items have been through the wringer before. Back in 2024, it did a first test run of the Flame-Grilled Chicken Sandwiches with three virtually identical flavors, and it also released Flame-Grilled Royal Crispy Wraps – and both were, it’s fair to say, a bit of a flop. Customers complained that the chicken itself was way too tough, and they quickly disappeared.
Now, though, it seems that BK’s quietly revamped its flame-grilled chicken offer, and it’s giving them another go. If it gets these right, a lot of people will be happy.
