Over the last few months, we’ve spent a fair amount of time talking about international fast food items. But can you blame us? Fast food franchises around the world have been serving up some pretty wild stuff, and it’s only natural to wonder what you’re missing out on. To recap: Burger King France recently rolled out two ice cream burgers; Pizza Hut Japan just put noodles on a pizza (for the second time in recent memory); and KFC China dropped an Oreo Chicken Burger. It has been, truly, an odd time, and we’ve loved every minute of it.

And we’re not done yet. One of these restaurants, in one of these countries, has just released a new pair of very on-trend burgers that are once again pushing the envelope. And we want to try them. Let’s discuss.
Burger King’s Pickleball Burgers
This week, Foodbeast reported that Burger King Japan has just dropped its new Pickleball Burgers. You might be wondering why. Well, Burger King is a sponsor of the Pickleball Japan Federation, and the burgers are, some might say, a natural consequence of this. These pickle-forward sandwiches also come right in the middle of the continuing pickle trend, which shows no signs of letting up and has seen slices of vinegary cucumbers get placed on and put in virtually anything anyone can think of.
So, for them to be put in burgers…well, it feels natural. Expected, even. Right? Burger King thinks so – and that’s why each of these new sandwiches has eleven pickles each in them. Yep: Eleven. These things are well and truly stacked with pickle slices, with the number reflecting the number of points pickleball players need to win a game.
Each sandwich also has a dill and lemon sauce, if all that vinegariness wasn’t enough. Elsewhere, they feel pretty conventional: There’s a double beef patty version and a chicken patty version, with lettuce and onions in a sesame seed bun. Customers also get a little pickleball keychain with each purchase, which is very fun.
This Isn’t The First Time…
If this all sounds like it’s breaking new ground, it kinda isn’t. Burger King Japan actually released a similar version of this burger last year, which came in a rice bun. Not a rice flour bun. A bun made of pressed white rice. It was probably a smart move for BK to shift to a regular bun for this year’s outing, given that the rice literally fell apart when people were trying to eat it, leaving customers holding the beef and pickles in their bare hands. It didn’t taste too bad, though, and Burger King’s clearly attempting to revise and improve things for 2026 here. It’s just a shame we’ll probably never taste it.
