Celsius Turned This Summer Cocktail Into An Energy Drink

Let’s be honest folks, sometimes coffee just doesn’t cut it. And, in moments of desperation, or for those of us who just need an extra kick of caffeine, we can always turn to an energy drink. Over the past few years the rise of new energy drink brands like Alani Nu and Celsius have really taken over. What used to almost exclusively be a Monster and Red Bull game is now a more diverse market.

Not only is the market expanding regarding companies, but part of the reason that the new companies have taken such a grasp on market audiences is due to their unique flavor lineups. Celsius is far from adverse to the novelty flavor launches with flavors like piña colada and orange Creamsicle already in rotation.

And now for a refreshing summertime twist, their newest novelty flavor, Celsius Spritz Summer Edition: Sparkling Limoncello Twist, will hit shelves on July 23rd.

The New Launch Has A Winter Sibling

Now, it’s important not to be confused with this launch since Celsius released a very similar drink last winter called Celsius Spritz Vibe as well. The name of its flavor was Sparkling Snowball Frost and it brought you right to the land of après-ski delight. As opposed to the new Limoncello release, the winter edition was reminiscent of a refreshing Aperol Spritz. 

Our favorable Sporked review noted that the Celsius Spritz Vibe (the original edition) accurately represented the bitterness of citrus, so it was perfect for a proper Aperol fan. Our review also noted, however, that not all of our taste-testers were positive with this one―with one of our staff even comparing the drink to floor cleaner.

A Summer Flavor This Time Around

This new spin-off of that mocktail spritz turns to the quintessential Italian summer liquor, Limoncello. The bright, yellow liquor the drink takes inspiration from is sweet, zesty, and has a slightly anise-y flavor. Of course, the drink is completely nonalcoholic. Instead, it has a consistent 200mg of caffeine per can. And, per typical Celsius fashion, it is sugar-free, chock full of supposed health benefits, and only has 10 calories. 

It is a limited-edition launch that, per its name, we can assume will only be around for the remainder of the summer months. But it offers a distinct change of pace from the rest of the Celsius flavor lineup that is currently available. If it does perform similarly to the Sparkling Snowball Frost, then it’d be natural to think that this drink will pretty accurately reflect the flavor of Limoncello without any of the alcoholic burn―just good summer vibes.
