In one of the most distinctly American moves of all time, Challenge Butter has given us all an excuse to eat more butter.
Earlier this week, the company debuted six new butter-based “snacking spreads.” What is a “snacking spread” you ask? Well, my friends, it is simply flavored butter. Or a “compound” butter, as they say in the biz. Of the six new flavors, three are sweet and three are savory, and those flavors are as follows:
Sweet: Chocolate, Salted Caramel, and Vanilla Fudge. Savory: Buffalo, Everything, and Garlic Parmesan with Herbs.
I’ll be honest, when I first saw the news that these were coming out, I thought, “Eh, seems unnecessary,” and kept scrolling. But then it hit me in two buttery waves. First: OH MY GOD, CHOCOLATE BUTTER EXISTS. BUFFALO BUTTER EXISTS. Second: You could use these butters for anything. Not just as spreads.
Imagine melting the Buffalo butter and drizzling it over fresh popcorn, or toasting an everything bagel and buttering it with everything flavored butter. An everything-splosion. Heck, who wouldn’t love a fresh slice of Wonderbread slathered in chocolate butter? It’s like Nutella that isn’t even remotely trying to pretend it’s good for you. Or cooking pancakes in salted caramel or vanilla fudge butter? I have to stop, I’m getting hungry. And the garlic parmesan flavor either on garlic bread or used to baste a steak? My goodness, I’m blushing. It’s very likely that I have just fallen in love with Challenge’s research and development department (Challenge if you’re reading this, please call me <3).
There are just too many potential combinations to test out, and I think at this point the FOMO outweighs the “not wanting to spend obscene amounts of money just to buy six tubs of butter.” So catch me in the dairy aisle because you butter believe I’m going to be trying every single one of these spreads.
