Back-To-School Has Started Early, According To Cheez-It

It’s a little bit premature to think about the back-to-school season, isn’t it? After all, the schools haven’t been closed for that long; summer’s barely started! (It really hasn’t; it’s almost the middle of July, but you get what I mean). That’s definitely not the attitude of retailers and food manufacturers, though, who never miss a beat when it comes to a chance to jump on an upcoming season in hopes of shifting some units.

We’ve seen that in particularly vivid fashion with the Halloween candy and cookies popping up, and in a slightly more moderate one with Dollar General’s back-to-school deals. And now, Cheez-It’s hopping on the latter bandwagon.

Cheez-It Letters Return!

The ever-reliable snack spotter @candyhunting has just confirmed that Cheez-It Letters are heading back to stores after a brief-ish absence. Cheez-It Letters have been a bit of an on-and-off item in recent memory: They generally appear when the back-to-school season begins (and Cheez-It isn’t shy about the association: It literally puts “Back To School, Limited Time Only” on its boxes), but they can also pop up when you least expect them. They were last seen, as far as we can tell, a few months ago…for the end of the school season? Maybe?

We’re not sure – but anyway, they’re back now. Cheez-It Letters were spotted at Metro Market, but they’ve also appeared on the Target website, available in a 12-pack, with six Original and six Extra Cheesy flavors. The Original flavor took our top spot in our ranking of the best Cheez-It varieties, just FYI, so we’re pleased that it hasn’t gone too left-field with these this year…

Why?

Well, because Cheez-It has been making some generally quite left-field moves so far in 2026, albeit ones that we’ve enjoyed discussing. The brand released its Chili Cheese Dog flavor in honor of the 2026 World Cup, and in doing so, baffled and titillated our taste buds simultaneously. As reviews went, they were pretty mixed, but a lot of people enjoyed the vaguely chaotic flavors that Cheez-It offered up here. And why shouldn’t they? Snacks should be fun — and, according to Cheez-It, educational. If you agree, grab your Letters now.
