Will these chicken sandwich wars never cease? Apparently not. The endless battle that fast food chains have been locked in for more than half a decade to release the best chicken sandwich seems to have entered a new phase in the last couple of months. Now, chicken sandwiches are going bigger (well, apart from the returning Snacker at KFC, which is going…smaller). Side-stepping the classic patty-and-pickle vibe, the likes of McDonald’s, Wendy’s, and Carl’s Jr. have been reviving, revamping, and releasing ever-bigger sandwiches for the masses, and finding interesting ways to promote them, too.

Now, Chili’s is wading into the ring. It’s just announced that it’s mounting a nationwide release of its Big Crispy sandwiches, following a pretty extensive testing period, and it’s got six flavors for everyone to try. Here’s what to expect.
Chili’s Big Crispy: Finally, Some Size To These Sandwiches!
The restaurant chain dropped the news of the full rollout of its Big Crispy sandwiches a couple of days back, and we’ve been excited ever since. Mainly because there are six flavors to choose from. Yup. Six. The Classic version is kinda what you’d expect from a chicken sandwich, and it must be said that it doesn’t veer too far away from the model set by the likes of Chick-Fil-A and Popeyes. It’s got a deep-fried hand-battered chicken patty with mayo and pickles in a brioche bun. Simple, but effective – and the big selling point here is that it’s actually big.
From there, though, things start to get interesting. Chili’s has a Spicy version of its classic sandwich, which contains spicy mayo. Then, we’ve got Honey-Chipotle, Nashville Hot, and Buffalo options – and we’ve also got a Deluxe choice, which contains bacon and Swiss cheese. These last four, incidentally, come with fries and white cheddar mac & cheese.
And What About The First Two?
Yes, we’re getting to that. The Classic and Spicy Big Crispy sandwiches will be part of the restaurant’s 3 For Me menu, which gives you your sandwich, fries, bottomless chips and salsa, and a fountain drink for just $10.99. Chili’s announced its addition to its value menu by taking shots at McDonald’s, and specifically the size of the chain’s McCrispy sandwich, pointing out that its Big Crispy was way, way bigger than the fast food chain’s option, and suggesting that its deal would be way better value.
To be honest, it kinda has a point. $10.99 for a big chicken sandwich and sides? We love that. The option to spend slightly more and get a Buffalo sandwich with mac and cheese? We also love that. It remains to be seen just how big these Big Crispy sandwiches are across the board, but given that it trialled them in hundreds of locations, we’d hope that it’s got a good handle on what people want.
