Gas station food has long been the butt of the joke – but doesn’t that feel like it’s been changing recently? In the last few years (and really, beyond that), gas station and convenience chains have been slowly but surely improving their food offers, and now, we’re at a point where they almost, ALMOST, rival some fast food chains. 2026 has been a particularly illustrious year for gas station food: Wawa’s new menu, featuring its Snack & Go Tacos, was largely well received by customers, while 7-Eleven’s new sandwiches have made a mark – and Casey’s pizza has reached even loftier heights of popularity.

Circle K has just confirmed our feelings on this matter once again. It’s just announced that it’s dropping its first-ever hot food collaboration, and these feel a step above – but, crucially, in a slightly different way. Let’s discuss.
Circle K x Flamin’ Hot
In a press release yesterday, Circle K stated that it was teaming up with PepsiCo/Frito-Lay to release new Flamin’ Hot boneless wings. The menu item is the latest in a line of collabs featured at the gas station chain: Just last month, Circle K dropped a Butterfinger bakery menu, and we’ve seen exclusives from the likes of AriZona there in recent weeks.
The difference here, though, is that Circle K’s billing this one as a step up from its previous fare, and, in a sense, as a promise for more to come. “This partnership is a perfect example of where we’re taking the food experience at Circle K,” said Gary Brant, Circle K’s Vice President of Food, U.S., in a statement. It sets a new benchmark for the kind of exciting flavors customers can expect from us.”
As for the boneless wings themselves, they’re exactly what they sound like: Little nuggets of chicken adorned with a Flamin’ Hot coating. They’re available now at participating Circle K locations around the country, and in September, they’ll expand to other retail outlets.
You Said These Are A Step Above In A Different Way…
Yep. Circle K’s new boneless wings definitely feel like a step-change for the brand, but they also feel like they exist in a slightly different world: That of the old-fashioned fast food collab. We’ve seen no shortage of these in the last few decades, but fast food items featuring flavors from other brands have usually been isolated to the bigger, well-known, dine-in chains.
In these new boneless wings, though, it feels like there’s evidence of a willingness for some of the biggest brands in the US to engage with gas station cuisine – and that’s good news both for choice-hungry customers and for chains that are ambitious to push things forward. Interesting things lie ahead.
