Looking at the new M&M’s flavors that have come out so far this year, a reasonable question would be: Where the hell’s the chocolate? Back in January, in the lead-up to Valentine’s Day, they dropped White Chocolate Strawberries & Creme M&M’s. Then, in June, we got Marshmallow Crispy M&M’s, a Target-exclusive flavor that’s also white chocolate based. We genuinely liked both flaves, but if you’ve been holding out for milk or dark chocolate, we finally have some good news for you: A new M&M’s flavor has been spotted at Albertsons-owned grocery stores and it combines white and dark chocolate. Here’s what we know so far about new Cookies & Creme M&M’s.

Wait a sec—haven’t they already released cookies and cream M&M’s?

Well, yes and no. Roughly seven years ago, M&M’s released its Halloween-themed Cookies & Screeem M&M’s for the first time, and they’ve returned periodically over the years (although they haven’t been on shelves in at least since 2023—as one of Sporked’s professional food taste testers, it’s my solemn duty to consume and mentally catalog every new M&M’s flavor).

Are Cookies & Creme M&M’s the same as Cookies & Screeem M&M’s?

Hard to say, but the descriptions seem to be the same. When Cookies & Screeem M&M’s were first released, the bag described them simply as “chocolate & white chocolate candies,” but subsequent years they were described, more specifically, as “dark chocolate & white chocolate” candies. As for Cookies & Creme M&M’s, the bag says “white & dark chocolate candies,” which is probably more accurate, given that the white chocolate interior looks more substantial than the layer of dark chocolate around it.

Sooooo…where do the “cookies” come in?

That’s the rub, babies. If you were hoping for some crunchy inclusions—maybe even a whole-ass cookie morsel like you get in Crunchy Cookie M&M’s—you’re SOL. According to a description of the new M&M’s on Mars’ website, the best you can hope for is “a delicious white and dark chocolate center with flavor notes of cookies and cream.” Notes, eh? Well, at least one person who’s tried the new M&M’s flavor said in an Instagram comment that the dark chocolate flavor overwhelms the cookies and cream flavor. Sigh.

If you’re still interested (okay, fine, I’ll admit I am), these cookies and cream M&M’s have already been spotted at a few Albertsons-owned grocery stores, according to food blogger Markie Devo, and you can get a 12-pack of share-size bags for $30 from the M&M’s website. Grab ‘em if you see them—it’s a limited time flavor! And stay tuned for our official review.

What ice cream flavor should become an M&M’s next?

Gwynedd Stuart

Howdy! I’m Gwynedd, Sporked’s managing editor. I live in Los Angeles and have access to the best tacos the U.S. has to offer—but I’m a sucker for a crunchy Old El Paso taco night every now and then. I’ve been at Sporked since 2022 and I’m still searching frozen mozzarella sticks that can hold a candle to restaurant sticks. Why you should trust me: I’ve been a journalist for 20 years (yikes), a consumer of food for 40-plus years, and I’m truly hard pressed to think of foods I don’t like (or that I can’t tolerate at the very least). Oh and one time I cooked my way through Guy Fieri’s cookbook and wrote about the journey through Flavortown. What I buy every week: Trader Joe’s Original Savory Thins. Fat free plain yogurt (usually Fage or Nancy’s). Honeycrisp apples. Sweet cream coffee creamer for my at-home Americanos. A frozen cauliflower crust pizza and some jarred mushrooms to top it with. Old El Paso Stand ‘N Stuff taco shells and Gardein Ground Be’f, even though I think “be’f” is a nightmarish contraction. Favorite ranking: Stouffer’s frozen dinners. I don’t own a microwave (I get my cancers the old fashioned way!), so I love taste testing things that I don’t really buy to eat at home. Least favorite ranking: Soy sauce. Don’t get me wrong, I love soy sauce—but consuming that much sodium in one sitting is probably illegal in some countries. Our frozen enchilada taste test was a close second; the smell of microwaved corn tortillas still haunts me.
