It’s always worth poking your head into the meat section at Costco. Not only can you get some great savings on beef and chicken if you’re willing to buy in bulk and choose wisely (which, in our cash-strapped times, is never a bad thing), but you can also find some stuff you might not expect. Costco’s meat selection is refreshingly wide-ranging, and this year, we’ve seen it bring goat meat back to its stores and stock some cuts that its customers really don’t want you to know about.

Well, we’re sorry, folks. Because we’re about to tell everyone about one of them.
Costco Kirkland Signature Boneless Picanha
This week, a Costco customer posted on the store’s subreddit in praise of its picanha, which they proclaimed “my new favorite cut.” Picanha, in case you’re not aware, is a cut popular in Brazilian steakhouses (and Brazilian steak culture at large), and is renowned for its juiciness and full flavor. Also known as rump cap or top sirloin cap, as it cooks, the fat cap on top of the meat releases its juices and moistens the meat. It goes gloriously with chimichurri.
Picanha can be harder to find in some places, though, which makes its presence at Costco all the more delightful – and its customers love it. “It’s like a mix between brisket and steak. Delicious,” said the person who posted the original Reddit thread, while another said, “It’s the best cut of beef by far.”
Others, though, were not pleased that everyone was talking about it. “Can you guys please stop talking about picanha? The more people find out about it, the more expensive it’s going to get. ” Let’s keep this our little secret,” said one person in the thread, with others lamenting that it was getting more popular. Look, we get it – but we’re not going to gatekeep this one. Times are tough, and everyone deserves good beef. Another person also pointed out that Costco is including promotions for its picanha in its emails to customers…so it’s not like it’s keeping it quiet.
And How Much Is It Selling Picanha For?
As of August 17, Costco has picanha for $8.99 per pound in its meat section. Granted, this isn’t the cheapest cut of meat you can find there – you may well be able to find brisket at a lower price – but if you’re looking for something different to try, give it a whirl.
