Earlier this year, when it felt like news stories and coverage about rising grocery prices were fairly relentless, Costco offered a bit of a port in the storm. Back in March, it announced in an earnings call that it would be passing on tariff refunds to customers, which would come in the form of lower prices across its goods. At the time, Costco’s CEO, Ron Vachris, noted that some of its items had already been lowered following the Supreme Court’s ruling on tariffs, with items like eggs, clothing, and coffee all cheaper than they were before.

Now, Costco has reiterated its promise of cheaper goods – and we have more information on what that might look like.
Tariff Refunds
In Costco’s recent fourth-quarter earnings call, the company’s chief financial officer, Gary Millerchip, stated that it had received $184 million total in tariff refunds, comprising $174 million in refunds and $10 million in interest. As it had stated before, the company is turning those refunds into savings for its members, and lower prices have started to appear across many of its items.
While Millerchip and Vachris didn’t spell out every single item that had seen a price reduction on the call, Millerchip did highlight several everyday products that are now more affordable. Kirkland Signature Walnuts, for example, have dropped from $13.79 to $9.99, a more-than-27 % reduction, as The Street notes. Kirkland Signature Colombian whole bean coffee has dropped by $2, now $199 instead of $21.99; Kirkland Signature coarse black pepper is now a dollar cheaper; and Kirkland Signature dry facial towels have also seen a dollar reduction.
More Savings Across The Board
Millerchip stated that these are examples, not the be-all-and-end-all, of the price reductions – and Vachris highlighted that the tariff refunds had enabled the store to make “price reductions on a number of items in the second half of the quarter, including everyday items in produce, meat, and beverages, and some non-food items such as home furnishings and hardware.” As such, it looks as though Costco has been trying to slash prices wherever it can, to the benefit of its shoppers.
News of these reductions, which have yet to come fully into focus, has been received very warmly by its customers. “I love Costco. This is where I want to spend my money,” said one person on Reddit in response to the cuts. Others encouraged fellow retailers to take note and mirror the action.
