If you’re so inclined and have the money to splash, then Costco has some pretty crazy splurges. Yes, it’s got breakfast cereals, produce, and everyday essentials, but it’s also got lobster tail, Champagne, and frozen goat meat (which isn’t that wild, let’s be real, but it’s surprisingly expensive!). It’s the kind of place where, if you look hard enough, you can find anything – in massive proportions.

So, obviously, when we found out that Costco was selling 55-gallon drums of maple syrup, our interest was piqued. Look, this store has never done things by halves, and we respect the hell out of it for it. Need something for your pancakes? Costco’s got you covered, for life.

All the Sweetness You Can Eat

Costco’s newest mega-sized product (which seems to be a recent addition, but honestly, you never quite know with this store) was revealed by a customer on Reddit, who spotted the drums of maple syrup in their local store. “Gave me a chuckle picturing rolling it out on Mother’s Day,” said the person who posted the picture of the barrels. Hey, we can think of worse ways to say “I love you” than more syrup than any human could get through in a single year — and if you don’t want to buy one of these, there are still plenty of good food ideas for Mother’s Day that don’t involve human-sized drums of sugar.

As is to be expected, the people who replied to the post did so in a slightly irreverent fashion. “Is this Canada? Or heaven?” asked one respondent (for clarity’s sake, we’re pretty sure it’s Canada). “Would hate to be an Instacart driver when someone orders one,” stated another. And, perhaps our favorite comment: “Always wanted to bathe in maple syrup.” We can’t say we feel the same, but look, it’s a choice, and we respect it.

Brisk Business

We should point out that this maple syrup barrel was spotted in a Costco Business Center, which is designed for food businesses and restaurants to stock up on their bulk-buy goods. With that in mind, the concept of a massive drum of maple syrup isn’t that surprising, although still a lot of fun. Given that maple syrup tends to stay at its best for about a year, though, whoever’s buying it will have to be making a lot of pancakes to get their money’s worth.

It’s also worth noting that this maple syrup ain’t cheap: The barrels are priced at $2,499.99 (although again, that’s likely CAD). That said, you’re not just getting any maple syrup. Costco’s maple syrup is one of its best-tasting products and is pretty well-known for its quality and full flavor. Essentially, you could be doing far worse than buying this one, even if you have to find some innovative ways to use it up. A maple syrup-filled swimming pool, maybe? An outdoor shower, where maple syrup cascades onto your flowing locks? The possibilities aren’t endless, but you’ve got some options.
