Dairy Queen is getting into its patriotic era. Because nothing says “celebrating America” quite like a very cold cup of soft serve, some star-shaped sprinkles, and a limited-time fast-food creation that will probably disappear before anyone gets too attached.

For America’s 250th birthday celebrations, Dairy Queen has introduced the Stars & Stripes Misty Slush Float―layers of Cherry Misty Slush, world-famous soft serve, and blue raspberry Misty Slush topped with festive star sprinkles. It’s red, white, and blue in a cup. And it’s available for just $2.50 from June 29th through July 5th at participating U.S. locations.
The only catch? That price is for the small size. Although, for a frozen drink that looks like a Fourth of July party got blended together, $2.50 isn’t half bad.
The Float Is Peak Summer Fast Food
Fast-food chains have fully embraced the holiday limited-time offer. A regular menu item is fine, but add some festive colors, give it a seasonal name, and suddenly customers have a reason to make a completely unnecessary trip through the drive-thru. The appeal here is pretty obvious: it’s cold, it’s sweet, and it’s exactly the kind of thing you want when temperatures are climbing in July.
It’s also very Dairy Queen. The chain has built its reputation around frozen treats that are less about needing dessert and more about creating a reason to get one. A Blizzard after dinner. A cone on a road trip. A summer float because every holiday apparently requires one.
Dairy Queen Is Turning Summer Treats Into An Event
The Stars & Stripes Misty Slush Float is also arriving alongside Dairy Queen’s new Blizzard Cup Lineup, featuring three globally inspired flavors: Strawberry Mango-flavored Mochi, Biscoff Cookie, and Mexican-style Hot Chocolate. Because this summer, even soft serve is going international.
And Dairy Queen is adding another incentive for people to try the new releases. Through July 26th, DQ Rewards members can enter the Go for the Globe Sweepstakes through the Dairy Queen app for a chance to win a six-night trip for two valued at $12,400. Plus, anyone who buys the Stars & Stripes Misty Slush Float through July 5th can earn 250 bonus DQ points and three sweepstakes entries.
Basically: a $2.50 frozen drink could also become a vacation entry. Not a bad excuse to open the app you downloaded and forgot about.
Every Holiday Is A Menu Now
Dairy Queen’s patriotic float joins a growing list of seasonal fast-food releases designed to turn celebrations into limited-time opportunities. The strategy is simple: create something that feels exclusive, make it available for a short window, and give customers a reason to stop by now instead of “sometime later.” Because “sometime later” is exactly how people miss limited-time menu items.
Whether the Stars & Stripes Misty Slush Float becomes a yearly July tradition or disappears into fast-food history after the holiday, Dairy Queen has once again found a way to make a simple frozen treat feel like an event. And that might be the most American thing about it.
