Some sandwiches deserve to make a comeback. Denny’s seems to agree, because one of its most talked-about cheesy creations is crawling back onto the menu just in time for Halloween.

For years, fans have been asking Denny’s to bring back the Fried Cheese Melt. Now, the diner chain is finally answering those requests with a new version called the Mozzilla Melt. It has the same fried-cheese that made the original so delicious, but with a few changes of its own. But sadly, it won’t stay permanently.
The Fried Cheese Melt Is Back
The original Fried Cheese Melt had the kind of menu description that could make someone hungry just by reading it. It combined grilled sourdough with fried mozzarella sticks and melted cheese, creating what was basically a grilled cheese sandwich that decided it wanted to be a little more ridiculous.
Over the years, people have continued talking about the sandwich online, including Reddit users who have shared memories of ordering it and discussions about whether individual Denny’s locations could still make something similar.
Denny’s seems to know exactly how much people love this old sandwich, which is making a comeback, but with a twist.
Is It Any Different?
So, you might be wondering what exactly is hiding between those slices of sourdough. Well, the Mozzilla Melt starts with grilled sourdough bread and golden-fried mozzarella sticks. Then comes melted American and provolone cheese, because apparently regular grilled cheese needed even more cheese.
The sandwich also comes with tomato sauce for dipping, giving all that fried mozzarella a classic pizza-style companion. A side of wavy-cut fries finishes the meal. It’s basically grilled cheese, mozzarella sticks, marinara, and fries all hanging out on the same plate.
Denny’s Has Been Going Big On Mozzarella In 2026
The Mozzilla Melt is not the first mozzarella-heavy creation Denny’s has rolled out this year.
Back in April, the chain introduced Mozzillas, a starter featuring giant fried mozzarella sticks served with tomato sauce. Denny’s also tested the Mozz Pit Burger, a burger topped with mozzarella sticks and sauce that celebrated the chain’s famous viral “What the heck is up, Denny’s?” moment.
This One Won’t Stay For Long
The Mozzilla Melt is a limited-time item, so this particular comeback might need to make another comeback again.
Denny’s plans to serve it at participating locations nationwide from October 7th through November 3rd, or until supplies run out. So you have just under a month to get another taste of the Fried Cheese Melt in its new form before finally disappears again.
