10 Devour Frozen Meals, Ranked

Are Devour frozen meals good? They were certainly hyped up for us. We received plenty of requests to review Devour meals both in comments on our YouTube videos (did you know you can watch us conduct our taste tests? You can!) and when we asked our readers for their ranking recommendations (you can tell us your suggestions by emailing us at info@sporked.com). Anyway, I expected to devour the Devour microwave meals. (There, I did the pun, I don’t have to do it again.)

The result? Some Devour meals are truly good—not just good for a frozen meal. Actually good. But some were not so good.

So, what’s the deal with Devour meals? These are hearty frozen meals (both dinner/lunch entrees and breakfast foods) made by Kraft Heinz. The website touts “tender meats, creamy sauces, crispy crusts, and gooey cheeses.” This is not a frozen food brand for dieters or dainty eaters. Devour frozen meals, with their charcoal gray packaging and all-caps font, are marketed to people who EAT, dammit. Lumberjacks. Welders. Blacksmiths. Macho eaters.

Or, you know, anyone who isn’t a vegetarian and doesn’t really give a damn about sodium content and is in the market for some pretty good frozen pasta (there’s a lot of pasta in the Devour meals line-up).

Want to know which Devour frozen meals you should devour? (Oh no! I did it again, I’m so sorry, I couldn’t help it.) Read on for our full Devour frozen meals review.

Steak doesn’t belong in a frozen meal. It has no chance. Meatloaf is one thing. Salisbury steak is another. But actual steak? It can’t survive the kind of processing that goes into making a frozen meal. The steak chunks in this Devour frozen meal are sad and gray and taste way more like corned beef than anything else. Along with the “steak,” there’s also scrambled egg, potatoes (which are, actually, pretty good and not grainy), onions, and black pepper gravy. It’s all fine on paper. But in your mouth it is so, so, so salty. I could feel the moisture leave my body.

Devour Spicy Chorizo Queso Hash

On its own, this frozen breakfast is strictly fair. The flavors are good—spicy, savory, and creamy. But the textures are off. The potatoes are seriously mushy. It’s all really mushy. BUT! If you scooped this into a big ol’ flour tortilla, you could make yourself one hell of a breakfast burrito. In general, the breakfast Devour meals aren’t the greatest. But if you’re curious, this is the one to try.

Devour Smokehouse Meat & Potatoes

Meat & Potatoes

Devour Smokehouse Meat & Potatoes

You know when you throw together a dinner made up of leftovers from a couple of different meals? And it doesn’t all mesh, so you just throw some BBQ sauce on there to tie it all together? And then you microwave it, and you eat it, and you’re like, okay, I ate dinner, I won’t die of hunger? That’s what this Devour meal is like. It’s heavy on the onions. It’s light on the corn (and the corn that is present is chewy). And the BBQ sauce is quite sweet. But if you tossed this onto some rice, you wouldn’t complain of hunger.

Devour Pesto Ravioli with Spicy Italian Sausage

Pesto Ravioli

Devour Pesto Ravioli with Spicy Italian Sausage

Impressively, the ravioli are not mushy. And the cheese inside the ravioli actually tastes like ricotta. That’s huge for a frozen meal. But, unfortunately, that’s where my compliments for this Devour frozen meal end. The pesto is gloopy and oily and more like basil-flavored alfredo than actual pesto. And the sausage is unnecessary. It’s chewy and it’s definitely not spicy. I’m willing to give this Devour meal another go if they rethink the pesto and take away the sausage. I know meat is a big thing in Devour frozen meals, but it’s okay to have one meatless option, guys.

Devour Buffalo Style Chicken Mac & Cheese

Buffalo Mac & Cheese

Devour Buffalo Style Chicken Mac & Cheese

Why would you bread the chicken? Breaded chicken has no chance of getting crispy in a microwaveable meal. And this Devour meal is no exception. The breaded chicken is so mushy.  And the cheese sauce isn’t creamy—it kinda separates and it’s a bit grainy. Still, if you close your eyes and take a bite, the sauce is zesty and tangy and a little spicy—just like you want Buffalo-style foods to be. But if you’re looking for the best Devour meals that feature pasta, there are better options from here on.

One thing Devour meals do really well is pasta. All of the pasta I tasted for this ranking was cooked pretty much perfectly. The noodles don’t get mushy. They’re al dente. It’s a real feat. The rotini in this meal is springy and holds the creamy sauce really well. There’s not enough bacon (something I never thought I would say about a Devour meal). And the chicken chunks are way too big. But, overall, it’s a pretty acceptable frozen dinner.

devour tortellini alfredo

Tortellini Alfredo

Devour Tortellini Alfredo with Italian Sausage

Like the ravioli, the tortellini in this entree are shockingly good. They’re firm and not at all mushy. And you can actually taste the cheese. The sauce? It’s a standard alfredo—creamy, buttery, a little cheesy. And the sausage? Get it out of here. Once again, it adds nothing. If you really need to add meat, Devour, consider throwing some crispy bacon on top.

Devour Cordon Bleu Mac & Cheese with Chicken

Cordon Bleu Mac & Cheese

Devour Cordon Bleu Mac & Cheese with Chicken

I’m not a huge chicken cordon bleu guy—it’s always a bit too gloopy for me—but the flavors work really well in this Devour pasta. The ham comes in big cubes. It’s savory and rich and it has just the right texture. It’s not springy or chewy. (I’ve tried a lot of ham, including cubed ham, during my time at Sporked, so trust me on this.) The sauce is creamy and the pasta is really well cooked, once again. The chicken is the only misstep. You get just a couple of way-too-big chunks. And the flavor and texture are underwhelming. Give us smaller chunks of chicken and more of them, Devour. This is a frozen meal. I’m not breaking out a knife to eat it.

Devour White Cheddar Mac & Cheese with Bacon

Mac & Cheese with Bacon

Devour White Cheddar Mac & Cheese with Bacon

A lot of people think that this is the best of all the Devour frozen meals. And I agree. It’s right up there. The cheese sauce is super duper tangy and creamy (it really tastes of sharp white cheddar). The pasta is on the softer end, but, personally, I think that works in a mac and cheese. And there’s crispy, meaty bacon in every bite. I would very happily nuke one of these puppies for a late night meal.

Devour Cajun Style Alfredo with Sausage & Chicken

Cajun Style Alfredo

Devour Cajun Style Alfredo with Sausage & Chicken

It was hard to stop eating this Devour frozen meal. You get peppers, you get Cajun seasoning, The sausage is thinly sliced and so savory. The heat is there, but it’s not overwhelming. The pieces of chicken—even though they’re a little mushy and, once again, a little too big—do taste good. And the pasta is perfectly al dente. Out of all the Devour frozen dinners we tried, this is the most unique and the most delicious. If you came here as a Cajun Style Alfredo Sausage & Chicken fan looking for validation, consider your tastes stamped with our approval. And if you came here looking for the best Devour meals, start with this one.
