Mtn Dew VooDEW was more than just a flavor. It was more than just a game. It was more than just a time-honored Halloween tradition aimed at easily entertained jamokes like yours truly, who just enjoy drinking soda when they don’t know what flavor that soda is. That’s right, I am a sucker for a good mystery flavor, and, until this year, I could always rely on Mtn Dew to celebrate spooky season with a quaffable liquid enigma. While the brand may have discontinued Mtn Dew VooDEW this year in favor of a decidedly non-mysterious collab with Trolli called Mountain Dew Trolli Cherry Lemon, they can’t stop us from reminiscing about the ghosts of VooDEWs and spooky seasons past. So without further aDEW, here are all the VooDEW flavors we got to taste and attempt to identify (sometimes successfully, sometimes not) over the years.

2019: Candy Corn – VooDEW 1.0

Ah yes, the first-ever VooDEW. The maiden VooDoyage, if you will. People liked this flavor almost as much as they liked the novelty of the whole mystery flavor situation. People generally thought VooDEW 1.0 tasted reminiscent of a variety of things—Starburst, Skittles, rainbow sherbet—but the actual answer? Candy corn. But it sounds like they went a bit fruitier with the flavors than traditional candy corn, and that is probably for the best—I’m not sure how many people want a bottle’s worth of candy corn flavor straight to the dome.

2020: Fruit Candy Explosion – VooDEW 2.0

People liked this VooDEW and claimed it was somewhat similar to the previous year’s flavor. That said, even once it was revealed, it was unclear what this flavor was supposed to be. Some people thought it could be candy apple, while others thought they detected Smarties and Skittles (the red ones, specifically). You name it, people guessed it. After this year’s edition, Mtn Dew made the flavor reveals somewhat more specific.

2021: Fruit Candy Chews – VooDEW 3.0

People immediately thought 2021’s VooDEW flavor tasted like fruit candy—think: Starburst, Laffy Taffy, and SweeTARTS. Our opinion here is that VooDEW 3.0 was intended to taste like Starburst since those are probably the most famous “fruit candy chews” on the market. That said, this was not an official collab, so we don’t know exactly what flavor the VooDevelopers had in mind when they created it.

2022: Sour Candy – VooDEW 4.0

This is the first VooDEW Sporked tried (meeeeeemories), and we and the public both thought this was a.) excellent and the best one yet, and b.) a very accurate Sour Patch Kids-esque flavor. That makes sense, given that this was reventually revlealed to be “sour candy” flavor. According to the Mountain Dew Wiki, “When it was first released, some fans discovered that when you zoom in to a pumpkin in the cemetery [on the 12-pack packaging], a Sour Patch Kid can be seen burning as the ‘candle of the pumpkin.’” I was not able to confirm this, but when it comes to Dew fans, I trust them to be as pedantic as is needed in my stead, so I can just chill back and sip a Dewy.

2023: Cherry Airheads – VooDEW 5.0

This was the first-ever brand-name VooDEW collab, and it was with Airheads. The liquid was still white like all the other Mtn Dew VooDEW flavors of past and present. This collab tasted a lot like cherry Airheads, but that begs the question: Why did they choose cherry if they could have picked any Airheads flavor like…ahem…blue raspberry, the king of the flavors. My fave flave, if you will. Or, I mean, what about White Mystery Airheads?! But I digress. Let’s talk about the most recent (and last ever?!?!) Mtn Dew VooDEW flavor.

2024: Pink Fruit Candy – VooDEW 6.0

Last year, we were all set for another brand collab VooDEW flavor, and then it fell through at the last second and became a regular Mtn Dew VooDEW mystery flavor. That said, the consensus was that the 2024 VooDEW was a pink Starburst situation, which was later confirmed by a comment about Pink Starburst from the Mountain Dew account on X that was later deleted. This wasn’t their best work flavor-wise, but it wasn’t their worst—all in all, a solid vintage of VooDEW.

Last year’s swirl makes me think maybe the Trolli collab this year was meant to be a secret VooDEW flavor, but maybe Trolli wanted their name out there immediately instead of after the fact. If this is the case, maybe VooDEW will be back next year with a different partner. Only time will tell, so for now we must Dew what we Dew best, try all the new sodas that get released in the meantime, and hope they Dew the VooDEW again and Dew remember to bring it back in 2026.

Which VooDEW flave was your fave?

Which would you DEW again?
