The Girl Scouts have a great racket going on. They’re ostensibly a cookie brand, but it seems like I only ever cover them selling their name/flavor profiles to non-cookie products. In the past, we’ve covered Girl Scout cookie-flavored Pop-Tarts, whipped cream, and Jello puddings just to name a few. Today, we have yet another entry in the canon of things made to taste like cookies you can only buy for a few months every year: milkshakes made by freezer-robots. Yes, really. Let’s talk about f’real Girl Scouts Coconut Caramel Milkshakes.
What is f’real? Where do I find this milkshake?
f’real is a brand of combination freezer-mixers available in select gas station chains, movie theaters, and college dining halls. You pick a cup from the attached freezer containing a pre-made mix, place it into a cupholder that lifts it into the mixing mechanism, and pick a thickness (thin, regular, or thick). A minute of mixing later, you’ve got your very own shake/smoothie/slushie!
I gave the new Girl Scout cookie-inspired flavor a try, keep reading for the full review.
Why didn’t they call the milkshake flavor the name of the cookie?
The Girl Scouts coconut caramel cookie has two different names! Despite the very sweet ending to the first episode of the King of the Hill revival, the Samoas/Caramel deLites name confusion has nothing to do with the Samoan people. Depending on which facility produces the cookies sold by your local Girl Scout troop, your cookies will be named Samoas or Caramel deLites—and they have different recipes too! Samoas use dark chocolate, while Caramel deLites use milk chocolate. I grew up in a Samoas region and I have a deep love for dark chocolate; this may not be a coincidence…
