When Orlando Jones said to “Make 7UP Yours,” GHOST Energy took it seriously. The energy drink juggernaut was nice enough to send over a few sample cans of their new authentic 7UP Energy collaboration ahead of next month’s retail launch. I cracked one open ahead of a busy day; let’s see if 7UP Energy can keep me upright.
Call me crazy, but I’m not sure any other lemon-lime sodas could translate this well to an energy drink. There’s an innate bitterness to caffeine that you couldn’t pass off as intentional in a Sprite-flavored energy drink, but 7UP‘s initial hit of citrus flavor is strong enough to make that harsh taste a positive rather than a negative.
Cons: GHOST sells a totally… perfunctory Electric Limeade energy drink year-round. It’s good, but it’s not groundbreaking. After trying this 7UP Energy, I think GHOST should reconsider which one is limited-time-only and which one will grace our shelves for all eternity.

What’s coming next from GHOST Energy?
If you thought GHOST was stopping their soda-energy innovation at 7UP, I’ve got good (bad?) news for you. Per the same sources that called this release long before it was ever announced officially, we’ll see GHOST’s take on an A&W Root Beer Energy hit shelves later this year. I’ve had a couple of very convincing root beer energy drinks before, so I’m looking forward to trying this authentic take from two leaders in their respective categories.
That said, I believe the 7UP and A&W energy drinks are just laying the groundwork for the authentic soda flavor with the most potential. While we haven’t heard any concrete release plans, a Dr Pepper energy drink by GHOST just feels inevitable at this point. We’ve seen some truly wild Dr Pepper variants in the past, but a highly caffeinated zero-sugar version from the mad scientists at GHOST would certainly make an impact.
