Olive oil and beer? It’s a timeless combo. I was recently in Greece, and believe me when I say that I’m still thinking about the combination of a plate of bread, olive oil, and feta with a cold glass of Alfa. My god. Heaven.

What’s less of a surefire hit, though, is olive oil in beer. And yet, that’s what we now have – in a sense, anyway. An olive oil brand we’ve spent much time admiring over the last few years has turned its hand to brewing and has teamed up with an alcohol-free beer company to make a drink that’s both unique and fun. Let’s break it down.

Graza x Athletic Brewing Company

Olive oil brand Graza has just collaborated with Athletic Brewing Company to make Cold Off The Press, a non-alcoholic beer brewed with Graza’s extra virgin olive oil. “Brewed with” is the key phrase here: This isn’t an infused beer, and you shouldn’t expect it to taste like oil or hit you over the head with olive notes. Instead, the olive oil is used to support the yeast while the beer brews, and the finished drink has a herby, lemony, slightly floral aroma and flavor. The suggestion of olive oil, if you will.

Cold Off The Press has a 0.5% ABV, and a six-pack currently runs for $14.99 on the Athletic Brewing Company website. It is, as I’m sure you’ll have a sense of, limited-edition – but if you’re a beer aficionado, this one will likely feel pretty one-of-a-kind.

Graza: A Love Story

Graza’s no stranger to collaborations (last year it teamed up with Bjorn Qorn on a new popcorn flavor), and there’s good reason why other brands are so willing to work with it on bespoke, limited-edition goodies. In the half-decade or so it’s been around, Graza has risen to become one of the buzziest names in the olive oil world. Along with its popcorn, it’s spent much of the last 12 months stretching its product line beyond its core output, creating potato chips and mayo that have gone down a storm. We remain impressed by everything it’s doing.

Athletic Brewing Company, meanwhile, has also carved out an impressive distinction for itself in the increasingly crowded non-alcoholic beer market, namely by treating the drink not just as an alternative to alcoholic brews, but as something worthy of craft and innovation. These two together? It’s the dream collab, baby.
