Today, we may be venturing into the land of “April Fools Day Products that were real and we wish they weren’t.” Behold: KFC toothpaste from HiSmile.
HiSmile is no stranger to wacky and wild flavors of toothpaste; they’ve made toothpastes flavored like ketchup, mustard, orange soda, popcorn, butter, wasabi, cola, Chupa Chups, Wonka Chocolate, and more. But this new flavor in particular seems really out there. After absolutely no deliberation and several weeks of patiently waiting for it to be shipped, it’s finally here. It’s time to find out what Kentucky Fried Chicken flavored toothpaste is all about.

Pros: This fried chicken toothpaste is SURPRISINGLY accurate to KFC’s Chicken. I get notes of their chicken—right down to the grease—as well as mashed potatoes and gravy. Maybe even a little bit of corn. This toothpaste leaves my mouth tasting and feeling like I just finished a meal at KFC. This toothpaste is sort of how I imagine Wonka Three Course Dinner Chewing Gum would be—all the enjoyment of a meal without actually eating it. What a weird but also surprisingly fascinatingly flavorful toothbrushing experience!
Cons: At first brush, I was hit with the grease flavor and it was VERY offputting. I’m so used to a sweet toothpaste that the savory quality of this toothpaste REALLY caught me off guard. And while it doesn’t taste bad, it is just different enough to make your brain go, “What is this? This is different! Different is wrong, spit it out!” Most of all, although I fully believe it cleansed my teeth, (I hear nothing but glowing reviews about HiSmile from many of my peers), my teeth did not feel like they are clean and I feel like I should probably brush my teeth again. That said, it was a fun experience. I’ll even finish the rest of the container.
