Which is good news if you’re already a Pure Leaf drinker, but arguably even better news if you’re not. Rather than emphasizing an especially high caffeine content, Mental Focus combines real-brewed sparkling black tea with naturally occurring caffeine and added L-theanine―an amino acid found in tea leaves that’s commonly associated with focus and attention. The drinks come in Peach and Raspberry flavors and contain 69 milligrams of caffeine per can.

Functional beverages have become an increasingly visible part of the grocery store in recent years, with brands promising everything from better sleep to improved energy. A sparkling tea built around L-theanine feels like a fairly natural extension of what tea has been doing all along. Whether it actually becomes your new favorite drink is another question.
