Last month, I covered the first of two Bridgerton ice cream flavors from Jeni’s. The super-jammy Queen Charlotte Sponge Cake impressed me. Can Earl Grey Crème Brûlée follow up that regal experience, or are we about to witness a carriage crash? Jeni’s was nice enough to send over a pint so I could find out for myself.

Folks, no one is an expert in everything. I can write confidently about chili and rollercoaster ice creams because I know what those taste like. What I’m not qualified to do is tell you how this ice cream tackles the idea of Earl Grey—a drink I exclusively know as “Picard’s favorite.” As such, for the second time, I’ve asked my local tea expert/long-suffering girlfriend for her thoughts on the Earl Grey’s authentici-tea.

Bridgerton Ice Cream!

Jeni’s x Bridgerton Earl Grey Crème Brûlée Ice Cream

Pros: Per my expert, this Bridgerton ice cream passes muster with flying colors. This is accurate beyond belief, all thanks to the inclusion of bergamot oil—the sole ingredient that turns black tea into Earl Grey. (Per Jeni’s Ice Cream’s Head of Innovation in a recent interview, in lieu of using an off-the-shelf Earl Grey, they blended black and green teas in-house and added bergamot oil separately to fine-tune the end result.)

While I was worried the burnt sugar inclusions would throw off the super-creamy form factor, the reality was a genuinely authentic replication of crème brûlée’s top layer. This is a pleasant, subtle treat that I’m looking forward to finishing later this month when Benedict and Sophie finally get out of their own way.

Cons: Queen Charlotte Sponge Cake is very good, no bones about it. Earl Grey Crème Brûlée is very good if you like Earl Grey tea. This can certainly be a divisive flavor, and since Jeni’s Ice Cream is uniquely strong, there’s no getting past it if it isn’t for you. Earl Grey fanatics should run to try this; everyone else might be okay skipping out.

Sporks

Hey, I like Earl Grey tea! Where can I get this for myself?

If you can’t find a local retailer on this store locator, Earl Grey Crème Brûlée is available for shipping through their webstore. There’s even a Bridgerton ice cream bundle featuring pints of both branded flavors, plus other Ton-worthy flavors like Wildberry Lavender and Gooey Butter Cake.

If you’re lucky enough to live near a Jeni’s scoop shop, you can get both Bridgerton ice cream flavors (while supplies last) in one of their house-made waffle cones or bowls. While you’re there, try their new House Coffee flavor. I’ll be giving it a full review here on Sporked soon; the only spoiler I’ll share early is that it somehow outdoes their spectacular Coffee with Cream & Sugar flavor.
