Earlier this week, Kentucky Fried Chicken debuted a promotional Supergirl menu. Three new dipping sauces and a specialty Starry mix are available inside the various branded combo meals. KFC was nice enough to send over the Ultimate Tender Meal so your favorite fast foodie could write this review faster than a speeding bullet. Let’s find out which of these new items are out of this world and which feel like pure Kryptonite.
- Supergirl’s Solar Honey Mustard Review
-
Pros: This honey mustard stands out from KFC’s existing honey mustard recipe by adding chili pepper flakes to bring a “solar” heat. The heat factor adds an interesting new layer to one of my favorite condiments. (Seriously, how often does honey mustard get spicy? The best one I’ve ever covered for Sporked stopped right at tangy.)
Cons: I’m not sure the honey mustard crowd wants heat. There are plenty of mustards that deliver spice; leave my sweet lil’ honey mustard alone.

- Lobo’s Wild Ranch Review
-
Pros: Jason Momoa’s Lobo is a wild guy, and his “kitchen sink” ranch delivers the vibe in spades. Per the press release, this amped-up ranch contains garlic, onion, herbs, sesame, and poppy seed particulates. I won’t pretend I can pick out every individual spice and seed in this smorgasbord of a sauce, but I know I’m a fan of the savory end result. Call me crazy, but I think KFC could replace their classic ranch with this without too many complaints once folks get to know it.
Cons: From a comic book nerd perspective, it’s interesting that the only sauce based on one of the film’s antagonists is also the only non-spicy sauce on offer.

- Ruthye’s Sweet Chili Revenge Review
-
Pros: Supergirl’s (non-canine) sidekick in the upcoming film is plagued with trauma and pain, which fuels her quest for revenge. Naturally, that tragic backstory translates to a delicious sweet chili sauce. While KFC has had honey mustard and ranch on the menu as long as I can remember, this is unprecedented.
Cons: I think this promotion could have stuck to this single sauce with more integration across the menu. I would love a chicken sandwich tossed in this sauce, but the menu is too focused on splitting your attention across all three sauces.

- Kryptonite Kooler Review
-
Pros: Starry lends itself very well to blue raspberry. This clears the seasonal Starry Cranberry soda by a country mile; I’d love to see it hit retail eventually. The strawberry popping boba adds bright bursts of flavor that are almost too much to handle on the first sip; they definitely didn’t skimp on the number of bubbles in this humble medium cup.
Cons: I did run into a speed bump with this drink; my meal was delivered sans boba straw, which is pretty integral to the boba-slurping process. Luckily, I have more food-related paraphernalia than I know what to do with (including a J-shaped straw McDonald’s released specifically for their chocolate Shamrock Shake), so I just used a leftover boba straw. Still, it’s worth noting the risk here: if your delivery driver isn’t diligent, you may be stuck without a popping boba delivery system.
