It’s almost Harry Potter season. Er, sorry, it’s almost Halloween season―which is, basically, Harry Potter season. And between that and the upcoming series, it’s a safe bet we’re all gonna be seeing a lot of that cute bespectacled face on grocery store shelves. From Tim Hortons to Betty Crocker, we’ve already seen the Harry Potter collabs stock up. And now Target is joining. But included in Target’s candy line-up is one flavor that will confuse you at first.

The Lemony Lore
We’re not looking the HP gift horse in the mouth here―all the sweets landing at Target have that half-delicious, half-delirious, half-dangerous Harry Potter vibe going on (yes, that’s three halves, because magic). The candy collaboration names include everything from Honeydukes Candy Floss and Fudge Flies to the unsubtle Cockroach Clusters, Exploding Bon Bons, and Fizzing Whizbees.
Then you get to the more recognizable stuff like Chocolate Cauldron Cake Hershey Kisses and, a surprise to us HP outsiders, Sherbet Lemon KitKat. Now, we’re no strangers to KitKat (and KitKat is no stranger to experimenting with flavor). But I am, admittedly, a bit of a stranger to the world of Harry Potter. So much so that what turns out to be like, textbook candy intel, was completely unknown to me. What’s actually kind of fun about the flavor is that it sort of compels the casual Harry Potter observer, such as myself, to learn more about the magical universe.
A Cursed Flavor?
And it turns out there’s a lot about sherbet lemon to learn. One immediate and easy thing you’ll hear echoed across the internet is that “sherbet lemon” is Dumbledore’s favorite flavor.
According to Harry Potter fandom’s Wiki, the actual (book-universe) sherbet lemon candy is a hard candy―again, a favorite of the beloved bearded Dumbledore―sold at “Muggle sweetshops.” This may refer to lemon drops, a more familiar candy to us Muggles. So the flavor makes sense for die-hard Harry Potter fans as an easy reference to spot.
But sherbet lemon in a KitKat? It’s an unusual flavor choice in a chocolate treat, even for a candy that’s experimented in citrus flavors before. So will the Sherbet Lemon KitKat taste like a lemon drop? You’ll have to try for yourself. These Harry Potter treats will be coming to a Target near you, while supplies last. Just don’t curse us if Dumbledore’s favorite candy isn’t a KitKat hit.
