Krispy Kreme’s New Donut Is Perfect For Fall (And It’s Not Pumpkin Spice)

Krispy Kreme never stops. The doughnut chain churns out new and returning flavors every other week, and true to form, it’s usually one of the first to get on board when the seasons start to turn. In fact, it usually pre-empts this: This year, it brought out its Autumnal Seasonal Collection in mid-August, featuring a host of pumpkin spice-flavored options.

Now, if we’re being totally honest…we were not fans of that menu, and that’s putting it mildly. So, we’re tentatively hoping that its new fall donut, which skips the pumpkin spice entirely in favor of another ever-popular flavor profile, will fare a little better. Here’s what we’re getting. 

Krispy Kreme’s New Apple Cider Original Glazed Doughnut

Yesterday, Krispy Kreme announced its new Apple Cider Original Glazed Doughnut, which is landing in stores starting today, September 10. This doughnut starts with an apple cider-flavored dough spiced with cinnamon, with Krispy Kreme’s inimitable glaze drizzled on top. I sort of expected this one to have an apple cider-flavored glaze, and apple-flavored dough can often feel a little underpowered – so hopefully Krispy Kreme has amped it up here. 

As is so often the way, Krispy Kreme is promoting its new Apple Cider Original Glazed Doughnut with a limited-time offer. From today through September 13, you can grab a dozen Apple Cider Original Glazed Doughnuts for $5 if you get another dozen at the regular price. Might be worth trying one out first before you take the plunge on 12 of them…but hey, if you’re in the mood to take risks, go for it, people. 

It’s Football Season!

The new Apple Cider Original Glazed Doughnut’s debut marks a separate arrival: that of football season. With it, Krispy Kreme is launching its new Fall & Football Dozen, a lineup of four classic doughnuts which the restaurant is saying is perfect for your watch parties. Customers can choose from:

• 4 Football Doughnuts: a football-shaped unglazed shell with white Kreme piped inside, dipped in chocolate icing, and topped with icing football laces. 
• 3 Pumpkin Spice Cake Doughnuts: Original Glazed Old Fashioned cake doughnuts imbued with pumpkin spice flavor.  
• 2 Maple Cheesecake Doughnuts: An unglazed shell doughnut with cheesecake Kreme inside, dipped in maple icing and adorned with graham-flavored crunch and maple drizzle.  
• 3 Original Glazed® Doughnuts: You know the drill here. 

We are, however, duty-bound to point out that the Maple Cheesecake doughnut mentioned just now got a 1.5 out of 10 in our taste test. Juuuust putting it out there.
