La Colombe, the Philadelphia-based coffee roaster responsible for one of our favorite canned lattes, just released a new limited-edition flavor to their canned line-up: S’mores Latte. Now, if I had a nickel for every s’mores-flavored coffee product I’ve tried in the past month, I’d have two nickels—which isn’t a lot, but it’s still a little weird. Chobani just released a S’mores-Flavored Coffee Creamer that I basically fawned over in my review for tasting exactly like a melted campfire s’more, graham cracker and all. Sorry to La Colombe, but now you’ve got a high standard to live up to here.
I cracked open this can after chilling it in the fridge for a day. Here’s my honest review.

Pros: This definitely tastes like the melty innards of a s’more. The chocolate has a caramelized quality to it. The milk is very creamy and almost fluffy in consistency, like a marshmallow. It’s definitely sweet but not too sweet—you can still taste the espresso through all the flavoring.
Cons: There’s something going on in this latte that makes the metallic flavor of the literal can more pronounced. It hits right at the end, and it’s a big turn off, I’m sad to say. It coats the inside of your mouth and lingers. I know that can be a common compliant with canned coffee drinks in general, so I tried not to let that ruin the overall flavor. My larger, more academic critique is that there’s not enough of a graham cracker flavor. You’re left with something sweet, but not very cozy. A s’mores latte needs to taste cozy.
Verdict: If I hadn’t tried the perfect s’mores coffee creamer less than two weeks ago, I probably would have liked this more. But I’m spoiled. Sorry, La Colombe.
