Two of our favorite trendy, millennial-coded drink brands have teamed up to create a rather unique ad campaign combining Jason Kelce, AI data centers, and pee. Let us explain: Liquid Death and Garage Beer just released a video about mailing your pee to data centers. Did that clear things up?
Videos by Sporked
The video opens with Kelce (co-founder of Garage Beer) peeing into a jar and talking about how he wants you to collect your pee in order to power data centers. He leaves the toilet and starts galavanting around a sun-lit meadow, singing a song with Liquid Death mascot Murder Man about peeing on computers. They’re joined by other people—including a fireman, a hippie, and a farmer—all holding jars of their own urine.
Our favorite part of the video is the attention to detail—everyone’s pee is a different shade of yellow (so realistic!) and one elderly man even keeps his pee inside a Ziploc bag instead of a jar. This is gross, but it really adds to the mise en scène. In the end, everyone meets up at the post office where they hand their pee to a postal worker who isn’t too eager to accept everyone’s bodily fluids.
I’m Confused—What Does Liquid Death and Garage Beer Have To Do With Data Centers?
Nothing, really. Data centers are a hot, contentious topic these days, and Liquid Death teamed up with Garage Beer to send a message about these infamous institutions in a way that will probably encourage people to consume more liquids—preferably the liquids sold by these two companies. You can even do so from a collectable, sealable mug made to commemorate the collab with the phrase “data center coolant collector.”
The idea is, if you drink plenty of Liquid Death beverages (to stay hydrated), and also lots of Garage Beer’s tasty light beer (to stay intoxicated), you should—in theory—be peeing enough to power an entire AI data center on your bladder alone. Plus, you’ll have enough liquid courage coursing through your veins to visit your local post office and ship off jar and jar without shame. At least, that’s how we interpreted it.
What Should I Do After Watching The Liquid Death x Garage Beer Video?
Well, we legally have to tell you not to actually ship your pee to data centers. It wouldn’t really do anything anyway. However, you can drink your favorite Liquid Death drinks by day and crack open a few Garage Beers by night while you chat with your friends about data centers.
AI data centers famously require millions of gallons of water to operate. In fact, they suck up so much water that their guzzling abilities have turned into a meme. But it’s not all funny internet pee jokes here. Data centers cause immeasurable harm to rural communities via water usage, noise pollution, and by being extremely land-intensive. We really appreciate that this collab is able to raise awareness about this destruction with some good humor (also, what can we say—we’re suckers for bathroom jokes). So while you’re sipping your favorite bev—heck, maybe even if you’re taking a pee while surfing the web—be sure to see if there’s a town hall meeting in your area that focuses on data centers and attend it if you don’t want to see your home turn into a soulless, dystopian AI factory.
