A Former McDonald’s Chef Shared How to Make the Breakfast Sandwiches Way Better

We love a breakfast sandwich, guys (we even love some frozen ones—Jimmy Dean, we’re looking at you!), and so it’s probably no surprise that we’re big fans of the ones that McDonald’s puts out. Except for one aspect. The egg, man. The egg. If it wasn’t for this little folded, floppy hockey puck sitting in the middle of your sandwich, items like its Bagel Breakfast Sandwich would be nothing but pure heaven. Alas. They’re not. 

Well, that’s unless you take Mike Haracz’s advice, that is. A former corporate chef for McDonald’s, Haracz has become an unlikely TikTok presence in the last few years, mainly for sharing McDonald’s hacks that will make your food way better. And we’re about to tell you what he thinks everyone should be doing with their egg sandwich.

According to Mike Haracz, Swapping Your Egg Is Essential

In a video on—you guessed it!—TikTok, Haracz laid out exactly what you need to do when ordering a bagel sandwich from McDonald’s. He starts, though, by explaining why the egg is so bad and how the store prepares it. “This is their pre-frozen, folded egg, okay?” he said in his video. “All they do is either microwave it, put it on a grill, hold it in, you know, their [universal holding cabinet]…it is the worst egg that McDonald’s has in the restaurant.”

Well, you don’t want that, do you? We thought not. So that’s why Haracz says that you should ask for the eggs to be subbed out, with the scrambled eggs from the Big Breakfast added in instead. The chef says that although these are liquid eggs, they cook them in the restaurant instead of just defrosting them, and as a result, they taste much better and have more tenderness to them. Oh, and you get more eggs for your money. Which is always nice. 

The Hacks Don’t Stop There

As you might expect, the moment that Haracz posted his video, people ran to the comments section to offer up their own twist on this hack. “I do that but with the round egg from the McMuffin,” said one person, in a comment liked by Haracz himself (have you tried this one, Mike?). 

Another person stated that they “get the steak on an English muffin and I get the egg McMuffin egg,” before concluding that their creation is the bomb. We can believe it. Bear in mind, though, that if you start fussing with your order too much, then you’re probably just going to annoy the person making it. Maybe work your way through the new McDonald’s menu items first, before you go rogue with your hacks.
