McDonald’s Just Announced A Hello Kitty x Godzilla Happy Meal Collab

Hello Kitty and Godzilla are two characters that probably were not on anyone’s 2026 crossover bingo card. One is an adorable Sanrio icon, while the other is a giant monster famous for appearing in movies like Godzilla: King of the Monsters and Godzilla vs. Kong.

Now, somehow, they are coming to McDonald’s together. McDonald’s has teased a Hello Kitty x Godzilla Happy Meal collaboration, and the first look is already causing plenty of excitement on social media. The fast-food chain revealed that the crossover will arrive on August 18th.

Hello Kitty Is Going Full Kaiju

Hello Kitty has been turned into plenty of fun characters over the years, but a giant monster makeover might be one of the most unexpected yet.

The upcoming collaboration brings together Sanrio’s Hello Kitty and Toho’s Godzilla for a Happy Meal collection that looks like it could be seriously fun. The teaser hints at Hello Kitty getting a monster makeover, giving the sweet Sanrio character a kaiju-inspired twist.

McDonald’s has not revealed all of the official details yet, but from the look of things, it’s a Happy Meal toys collab.

Apart from pairing Hello Kitty with Godzilla, fans could see pairings like Kuromi with Mechagodzilla, My Melody with Mothra, and Chococat with SpaceGodzilla.

As with most Happy Meal toy drops, customers will be getting one toy per Happy Meal.

Happy Meals Have Been Around For A While

McDonald’s Happy Meal dates back to the 1980s, when they released a lineup of toys that included transforming robots inspired by the Big Mac, large fries, and a milkshake.

There was also the McDonald’s-Hot Wheel Happy Meal toys, Inspector Gadget toys, and even the Barbie toys in the 1990s and 2000s.

More recently on July 14th, the BT21 Happy Meal toys were launched, giving fans a chance to grab toys inspired by the iconic BTS. The collection featured 10 different BT21 toys, with characters including KOYA, RJ, SHOOKY, MANG, CHIMMY, TATA, COOKY and VAN.

August 18th Is The Date To Remember

The new Happy Meal promotion is expected to launch August 18, 2026, at participating McDonald’s restaurants in the U.S.

The reported collection has enough unusual character combinations to make collectors curious, while the Hello Kitty and Godzilla names give the promotion plenty of nostalgia on both sides.

McDonald’s has not revealed every detail yet, so the official launch should provide a closer look at the toys and the full promotion. 

For now, the important date is August 18th.
