There’s a New Monster Juice Flavor—and It Tastes Like Childhood

Folks, I spend a lot of time engaging with caffeine fanatics about their drinking habits; Monster Juice is definitely an underdog “if you know, you know” subline from one of our top energy drink brands. Case in point, Monster Juice takes up all three podium positions in our current ranking of the top Monster flavors. While I may disagree with those exact placements on a personal level (justice for Monster Ultra Black, please), I can’t argue with the core truth: Monster Juice is widely appealing. These fruity non-carbonated caffeine bombs can pass muster with true-blue energy drink haters.

That immutable fact explains why Monster puts out new Juice flavors pretty regularly—and today is no different. I secured an early sample of Monster Juice Voodoo Grape back in October, and it’s finally time to crack it open. Let’s see whether Voodoo Grape can make magic happen.

Pros: My girlfriend, who does not enjoy 99% of the energy drinks I ask her to try, absolutely nailed the description of this drink after a single sip: “Oh, it’s grape Kool-Aid.” This definitely has that classic purple candy grape flavor. After the complexity of Monster Juice Viking Berry left me a little confused, I’m glad to see Monster take this easy swing and nail it. (And, for those of you concerned with this kind of thing, Voodoo Grape Juice Monster contains real sugar.)

Cons: This goes for the whole Monster Juice line, but man… this is syrupy. Most of the Monster drinks I try these days are zero-sugar, so these rare full-sugar options hit me like a truck. The flavor is great, but the texture (and sugar content) takes some getting used to.

When can I get my hands on this new Monster Energy?

That answer depends on how far you’re willing to travel for it! Monster Juice Voodoo Grape will hit shelves nationwide on February 9…but it’s hitting shelves right now in New Orleans. To kick off Mardi Gras strong, Monster is releasing this voodoo-themed energy drink early at AMPM, Kwik Trip, Maverik, RaceTrac, and Wawa stores throughout NOLA.
