Late last month, I got a little care package from my friends at Monster Energy. That delivery contained a few test cans of Monster’s newest zero-sugar Ultra flavor and a little note explaining that this flavor will hit shelves nationwide in March. We here at Sporked try not to overwhelm you with super-early reviews that do nothing but inspire FOMO, so I made plans to get the review out sometime in February, just a few weeks before it hits shelves.

Those plans went out the window when I got a second care package earlier this week, revealing a big surprise: Monster Ultra Punk Punch is available right now if you know where to look. Since it’s already on sale, I cracked open that sample can for you good people. Read on for my full review and to find out where you can pick up this drink two months early.

Monster Ultra Punk Punch

New Monster Juice!

Monster Ultra Punk Punch

Pros: Monster just doesn’t miss. This is a solid take on “fruit punch” from one of our most prolific energy drink brands. While Monster’s zero-sugar watermelon flavor has been discontinued, I think Ultra Red superfans will be very happy with this replacement flavor. This berry-ish, citrus-y miasma of fruits has more bite than your average fruit punch—meaning this zero-sugar drink has an appropriately “punk” punch.

Cons: Per the press release, this energy drink is intended to emulate a red berry-cherry-pineapple-citrus-mango-kiwi fruit punch. That is…too much! While I like this drink, trying to define “fruit punch” in any specific way is more detrimental than helpful. Fruit punch is like blue Gatorade—we’re not supposed to know the actual flavor, or we’ll start getting ideas in our head which can then be disappointed.

Where can I get my hands on this new Monster Energy?

As we covered earlier this week, Monster Ultra Punk Punch is available exclusively at Circle K for the next two months. If you’re in a Circle K-free region, you won’t be out of luck for long; in mid-March, we’ll see this flavor hit Monster retailers nationwide. (And make sure you stay tuned to Sporked for a review of this summer’s Monster Ultra Red, White, and Blue Razz coming soon.)
