It’s always a good day whenever we get to try a brand new Mountain Dew flavor (and we’ve been in a bit of a “Dew Drought” lately—the last new flavor we tried was last November when we tried Game Fuel Citrus Blackberry). But now, the Mountain Dude has presented us with a brand new Baja flavor: Mountain Dew Baja Cabo Citrus—and it’s available in zero sugar, which we will be reviewing separately.
Cabo Citrus promises to be “Tropical Citrus Punch flavor” (word on the street is that translates to Tangerine Lime). I found it at my local Walmart, so let’s dive right in and see how this new Mountain Dew Baja spinoff stacks up against the rest!
Pros: If you’re a fan of a good orange soda, I think you’ll be happy with this new Mountain Dew. A very orange-heavy soda is met with hints of that traditional, fan-favorite Baja Blast flavor. I would almost say it is like LiveWire with a tropical twist. This also feels like it could lend itself very well to tropical themed cocktails.
Cons: I’m a little bit underwhelmed. It’s hard to ding something that is genuinely good tasting, because it is. But I am pretty disappointed that despite being prominently featured on the label, the lime flavor is incredibly muted in Cabo Citrus. And one thing that I have always loved about Mountain Dew is that they are always leading the charge with innovation—going bold places where no other soda company would dare go. Cabo Citrus is good but I think it’s playing it very safe.

On the bright side I have long wanted a zero sugar live wire! This comes pretty close to scratching that itch and is pretty tasty!
