Now, call us old-fashioned here, but when I eat baked beans, I expect them to taste like…baked beans. As a Brit, obviously my definition of baked beans’ flavor profile is pretty different from the US-based version of the food, but there are a lot of similarities there, too: A slight smokiness, a tang, a tomato twist. Soft beans. And savory. Savory.

But whether you’re British or American, I think we can all agree that Bush’s new baked bean flavors are far from what everyone expects them to be. Because guess what? Now you can get rocket pop beans. Yep. It’s a thing. Let’s discuss.
Bush’s Summer Flavors: We Bet You Never Saw These Coming…
Bush’s Beans announced the release of its summer baked bean line in a press release yesterday, and honestly? We’re a little shook. That’s because this year, it’s taking beans into sour, sweet, cinnamon-y realms that we really didn’t predict. The new flavors are:
- Bush’s Dill Pickle Baked Beans: Starting the strangeness is a baked bean that Bush’s says pairs tanginess with a dose of dill pickle. This one is clearly picking up on the dill pickle trend that everyone from Fritos, to Quest, to KFC is jumping on this year. But in bean form? We’re not so sure…
- Bush’s Apple Pie Baked Beans: Now this is where things get even weirder, but also…we kinda get it. Bush’s Apple Pie Baked Beans are infused with brown sugar, apple, and cinnamon flavors – and while the apple is a bit of a curveball, the other two almost make sense.
- Bush’s Rocket Pop Baked Beans: This one’s gonna be a tough sell, guys. Bush’s Rocket Pop Baked Beans are, as the brand says, “bursting with notes of cherry, lime and blue raspberry.” Like pickles, rocket pop flavors are big this year – but unsurprisingly, that’s happening in the drink world, like with the release of Bloom’s Rocket Pop flavor. Not in the bean world.
And Why Is Bush Doing This?
Great question. “With these new Baked Bean flavors, we want to surprise people and bring a new energy to the barbecue spread, because the best dishes aren’t just the ones you love, they’re the ones you can’t stop talking about,” says its Vice President of Marketing, Dena vonWerssowetz, in its press release. Essentially, it’s trying to start a conversation. And to be honest, it’s working – we’re talking about it, after all!
And If I Want To Try Them…How Do I Do That?
You get yourself down to Walmart, or check its website. The Dill Pickle and Apple Pie flavors will be available at Walmart stores imminently, and are rolling out now. The Rocket Pop flavor, meanwhile, will be an online exclusive on the Walmart site, starting from May 23. All flavors, it will not surprise you to learn, are limited-edition.
