Chipotle Has a New Green Sauce and People are LOVING IT

Phew. Thank you. Listen: Chipotle’s new Cilantro Lime Sauce dropped on Wednesday. And it’s already getting such rave reviews, it might be their best yet.

We were blessed with a couple of new Chipotle sauces in the last year: Adobo Ranch and Red Chimichurri, both of which were tragically only here for a limited time (RIP, Red Chimichurri… gone, but never forgotten). If you, like me, are still reeling from the grief, the new Chipotle sauce is finally here to ease your pain. And apparently it tastes as vibrant as it looks. 

With roasted jalapenos, cilantro, lime, garlic, cumin, and sour cream, this is basically a lightly spicy cilantro-lime crema that you can douse on everything. And I mean everything. But especially, especially, the carne asada. If you order carne asada and don’t even try it with this new Chipotle sauce… buddy, I will show up at your house again. Don’t piss me off. 

By the way, the recipe was created by a former Chipotle crew member Danny Boyzo, who moved up to become a Culinary Analyst for the restaurant. That might be the secret to its success, here—we had someone on the ground floor, who worked with the kitchen every day, come up with the perfect sauce to complement Chipotle’s menu. 

Ariana, in your heart of hearts, will this really make up for Chipotle discontinuing the Red Chimichurri sauce? 

No. Chipotle is still on my shit list for that. Red Chimichurri was so tangy and nuanced and made everything taste better. First of all: a good store-bought chimichurri is almost impossible to find, so I would hoard that stuff with a vengeance whenever I could. Second: I loved that it wasn’t spicy. It’s rare to find a Chipotle sauce that makes every little ingredient in the bowl stand out without lighting your mouth on fire or making it taste like a salad. Ugh. I miss you, RCS. 

Luckily for me and everyone else in my RCS Support Group, Chipotle’s new Cilantro Lime seems to have a similar effect. It’s not too spicy, and it enhances rather than takes over the meal.
