Between a permanent retail launch, two new spinoff flavors, Baja Blast-inspired Doritos, and Baja Blast Gelato, 2024 was truly the year of Baja Blast (it was the brand’s 20th anniversary, sorry, Bajaversary, after all). But the Baja innovations keep coming. Now that it’s 2025 and Baja Blast is old enough to legally drink, Taco Bell has decided to celebrate the occasion by “letting Baja Blast stay out a little bit later,” according to the brand. Yes, there’s a mysterious new Mountain Dew flavor hitting Taco Bell locations. Here’s everything we know so far.

What is the new Mountain Dew flavor?

Enter Mountain Dew Baja Midnight! Taco Bell announced that this brand new Mountain Dew will be releasing exclusively at Taco Bell locations this summer. The brand added that, much like Baja Blast, Baja Midnight was crafted specifically to pair well with their food.

What flavor is new Baja Midnight?

According to Taco Bell, the deep purple-hued Baja Midnight tastes like the “tropical lime you love with a blast of passionfruit.” Some fans are speculating that this flavor might be similar to 2023’s Baja Passionfruit Punch due to both the purple color and the passionfruit flavor.

Super Soda Sleuth Team Supernova did some digging and was able to confirm that test cans of Baja Midnight appear to use the same test can codes as Baja Passionfruit Punch’s test cans. This is significant because each test can created by Pepsi features a different number. The same numbers have historically only appeared when the same formula is used, so it is VERY likely that Baja Midnight and Baja Passionfruit are one in the same.

Is Baja Midnight getting an in-store release?

I don’t suspect that Baja Midnight will release on shelves now or anytime soon. Baja Midnight seems to be Taco Bell’s new special exclusive Mountain Dew flavor, since Baja Blast no longer fills that role. So I imagine Taco Bell will not be so quick to share it with the retail world.

Will there be a Baja Midnight Zero?

While there’s no plans for a zero sugar version of this new Mountain Dew flavor at the moment, it could happen. If Baja Midnight does well and there is demand for it, a zero sugar version is definitely possible later on. But for now, sources say no.

If you’re as excited for this one as I am, mark your calendars now because we don’t have too much longer until the Bell strikes (Baja) Midnight.
