These New Pop-Tarts Look Like a Familiar Savory Snack

Have you stopped at a gas station on a long road trip and thought to yourself, “I’m really craving Combos, but gosh darn, if only they were made of cookie instead of cracker and icing instead of whatever the inside of a Combos is made of (and also I really have to pee)”? Well, you are in luck because new Pop-Tarts Crunchy Poppers are coming soon to a store near you, and from what I can tell these will perfectly scratch that “sweet Combos” itch. Also, most gas stations have bathrooms, so that part is pretty much covered too.

So wait what exactly are Pop-Tarts Crunchy Poppers? What flavors will they come in? Please tell me none of them are “sweet pizza” flavored.

I’ll be real, the packaging—which was shared by popular snack food Instagram account Candyhunting—is a bit vague when it comes to exactly what these new Pop-Tarts are, but the packaging is pretty much the only reference we have right now. That said, we do know that they are bite-size and will come in boxes of five packets. The packaging describes Pop-Tarts Crunchy Poppers as “crunchy filled snack pieces,” which sounds pretty Combos-esque to me (the images of the bites on the pack looking significantly Combos-y, too).

The two flavors we know will be released so far are Frosted Strawberry Crunch and Frosted Brownie Crunch, both of which sound great but notably neither of which is Brown Sugar. It’s okay, I forgive you Mr. Tart (or Pops, whichever you prefer). And now for the elephant in the room: No, we do not know how these taste…yet. They simply aren’t on shelves at the moment and they haven’t been sent our way just yet, but hey. We here at Sporked love some good speculation and if I had to guess I would guess the strawberry tastes like one of those jelly cookies with the heart-shaped window, and the chocolate tastes like a non-minty Thin Mint.

I have no idea what the use case is here: snack only, breakfast, or snack/breakfast? Dump them in a bowl with milk and treat them almost like a double-stuffed Krave cereal? Again, these are just guesses. Only time will tell how these truly are—we simply have to sit tight until these Pop Tarts Crunchy Poppers hit shelves in the coming months. We do know for a fact there is no sweet pizza flavor, though, so we can all rest easy knowing that our tastebuds are safe…for now.
