Do you like soccer and snacks? Well, it’s a big day for you, my man. Kellanova is the official snack sponsor of the U.S. Soccer Federation and to celebrate the World Cup (which is coming up in June), they’re releasing a whole slew of new products. Ole, am I right? You can look forward to Cheez-Its that taste like chili dogs and Pringles that taste like loaded nachos, but arguably the most eye-popping new drop is Star-Spangled Blueberry Pop-Tarts.

What makes Star-Spangled Blueberry Pop-Tarts different from regular Blueberry Pop-Tarts?

The Blueberry Pop-Tarts you know and love are topped with a smear of white icing and dotted with multi-colored sprinkles. The pastry is, you know, pastry-colored. That’s where these new Pop-Tarts differ. The pastry is RED. Like, bright red, according to the imagery that’s been released. And the sprinkles are only blue and red. Breakfast has never been quite so patriotic. Or has it…

If these “new” Pop-Tarts look familiar to you, you’re onto something…

Think alllll the way back to 2019 and you might remember Red, White & Blueberry Pop-Tarts, which were also made with red pastry, red and blue sprinkles, and blueberry filling. And before that, back in 2013, there were Red, White & Berry Pop-Tarts, which also had red pastry and blue and red sprinkles. So, yeah, Pop-Tarts is going back to the well with this one, but the good news is: They taste good.

When food blogger Cereously covered the Red, White & Blueberry Pop-Tarts in 2019, they said, “By far the worst and best thing about Red, White & Blueberry Pop-Tarts is their appearance.” Red Pop-Tarts aren’t everyone’s cup of tea, but it sounds like you can rest assured that these taste like regular ol’ Frosted Blueberry Pop-Tarts, the second best Pop-Tarts flavor, according to the Sporked team. There are A LOT of flavors, so second place is pretty elite.

If you’re in the “redder the better” camp, the limited edition Star-Spangled Blueberry Pop-Tarts will be heading to stores in May, so keep an eye out. They’ll be hard to miss.

Gwynedd Stuart

Howdy! I’m Gwynedd, Sporked’s managing editor. I live in Los Angeles and have access to the best tacos the U.S. has to offer—but I’m a sucker for a crunchy Old El Paso taco night every now and then. I’ve been at Sporked since 2022 and I’m still searching frozen mozzarella sticks that can hold a candle to restaurant sticks. Why you should trust me: I’ve been a journalist for 20 years (yikes), a consumer of food for 40-plus years, and I’m truly hard pressed to think of foods I don’t like (or that I can’t tolerate at the very least). Oh and one time I cooked my way through Guy Fieri’s cookbook and wrote about the journey through Flavortown. What I buy every week: Trader Joe’s Original Savory Thins. Fat free plain yogurt (usually Fage or Nancy’s). Honeycrisp apples. Sweet cream coffee creamer for my at-home Americanos. A frozen cauliflower crust pizza and some jarred mushrooms to top it with. Old El Paso Stand ‘N Stuff taco shells and Gardein Ground Be’f, even though I think “be’f” is a nightmarish contraction. Favorite ranking: Stouffer’s frozen dinners. I don’t own a microwave (I get my cancers the old fashioned way!), so I love taste testing things that I don’t really buy to eat at home. Least favorite ranking: Soy sauce. Don’t get me wrong, I love soy sauce—but consuming that much sodium in one sitting is probably illegal in some countries. Our frozen enchilada taste test was a close second; the smell of microwaved corn tortillas still haunts me.
