Tyson Just Released a Never-Before-Seen Chicken Nugget Exclusively at Walmart 

How much can you change up a chicken nugget? That’s a question that food scientists and recipe developers have been asking for decades (well, we assume they have been, anyway). There’s no shortage of good frozen chicken nuggets out there, but for every classic version, there’s one that’s adorned with additional flavor, and a lot of the time, these flavors don’t quite hit the mark. We only have to point you to Trader Joe’s’ Spicy Chicken Nuggets, which it brought out last year, to remind you of that fact. Spoiler alert: They sucked.

Well, Tyson is clearly not put off by the horror stories of chicken nugget varieties gone wrong, if its new waffle-flavored chicken nuggets are anything to go by. Waffle flavored? Waffle flavored. Here’s the lowdown.

Tyson Restaurant Style Waffle Flavored Breaded Chicken Breast Bites

These new chicken nuggets (which Tyson is calling “chicken breast bites,” but let’s be real – they’re nuggets) are clearly an attempt to solve one of life’s great problems: How do you combine the flavor of fried chicken and waffles in one item? Hence, we were given Tyson’s Restaurant Style Waffle Flavored Breaded Chicken Breast Bites, which are covered with a gently sweet, slightly batter-y breading with a waffle twist. We guess it’s more convenient than putting your chicken nuggets in between a pair of frozen waffles, but doesn’t it take away from the fun of having two contrasting flavors and textures?

These chicken nuggets are now available at Walmart in 32-ounce bags, although that seems to only be in-store at the moment: They don’t show up on its website just yet. We wouldn’t be surprised if they head to other retailers soon, too. It’s worth pointing out that these are uncooked chicken bites, so you’ll need to cook them very thoroughly. Oh, and you’ll need a maple syrup dip for them, obvs. 

Chicken and Waffles: They’re Getting Closer and Closer

Chicken and waffles used to be a dish that brought two fairly disparate elements together, binding the two foods with the magic of maple syrup. Clearly, though, Tyson thinks the two should be mashed up in ever more intimate ways. The food giant already has a premade Chicken & Waffles Sandwich, and these nuggets represent the next step in its apparent ambitions to remove any effort whatsoever from cooking. What they taste like, though, is another question.

And if you still want chicken and waffles, but are resistant to significant effort? Well, making it out of leftover KFC chicken is going to be the trick for you. Just take the pieces you didn’t eat last night and reheat them while you cook your frozen waffles. Combine the two, sit back, and enjoy. We think it’ll probably be better than these nuggets, but we’re not quite sure just yet.
