Want something put right? Complain about it. To be honest, one of the fastest ways to influence a brand to get something done these days is by voicing your disgruntlement. These companies have nowhere to hide in the Internet age, and with a few well-placed DMs or public-facing posts, their customers can very quickly usher in change.

Want proof? Oreos is changing its Cakesters recipe, after people spoke out about how disappointed they were at their new taste. Here’s what’s been going down.
Wait – Cakesters Are Back?
Yes! And to be honest, you probably already knew this, unless you haven’t set foot in a store in the last couple of years, as they have been since 2022. Oreo Cakesters were first released back in the 2000s, but the following decade they were discontinued. This caused a lot of consternation for Cakesters fans, who were promptly delighted when the snack returned to shelves a couple years ago.
But here’s the problem: They weren’t the same. People have been pointing out that Cakesters taste significantly different ever since they made their grand re-return to the market. A Reddit post from 2022 has multiple people piping up to say that they’re not as good as they were before, with one commenter stating, “I used to really like these so was excited to see them again […] Either my memory sucks or they do. If I had the receipt I’d return them.” Not exactly a glowing review, huh? Although Oreo pressed on with new flavors like its Confetti Cake Cakesters, people remained unconvinced. Clearly, something needed to change.
So What Has Oreos Done To Correct Things?
Apparently, Oreo has swapped out the cake component of its Cakesters for a new version, making them closer to a snack cake (and therefore, fulfilling the “cake” part of the promise) than a cookie. The creme, meanwhile, is remaining the same – but hey, it’s always done pretty well on that front, so why fix what ain’t broken?
Oreo has stated that its Original Oreo Cakesters, Golden Oreo Cakesters, and Double Chocolate Oreo Cakesters will all be made with the new recipe going forward. Its other flavors don’t get a mention, and so we slightly question whether Oreo will be making the change with those, too. If it isn’t, we’re still a little dubious – especially given that its Peanut Butter Cakesters got a 5.5 out of 10 in our taste test, and that the cookie part (and its lack of flavor) were a particular issue for us.
Oreo isn’t the only snack company that’s been changing things up recently, either. Hershey’s is making changes to its Kit Kat recipe, in a bid to improve one of its biggest products, and it’s got eyes on further changes going forward. We live in a time of constant improvement, folks.
