Pringles is no stranger to new and exciting flavors, whether it’s 7-Layer Dip, Texas BBQ Brisket, or even Philly Cheesesteak. And they’re not done yet. Behold, the brand new Ghost Pepper Ranch flavor of Pringles. Both the spicy food loving aficionado and Pringles enjoyer in me jumped for joy as I quickly added this to my hunt list. I tracked a canister down at my local Kroger (it may or may not be exclusive to Kroger-owned stores), so let’s see how it stacks up (pun not intended) against the other Pringles flavors!
Pros: Maybe my tastebuds are broken or something, but I’m getting vibes of the classic Sour Cream & Onion Pringles from these. That’s a huge pro for me as Sour Cream & Onion is arguably one of the greatest Pringles flavors of all time. And these crisps DEFINITELY bring the heat—so much that I’ve got a bit of a sweat going as I type this. That being said…
Cons: There’s a “Spicy Meter” on the design of this Pringles cannister and the heat level for Ghost Pepper Ranch is marked as “Medium.” I’m sorry, what? Why is a flavor based on one of the hottest peppers in the world ranked as a measly 2 out of 4? What is a 4 out of 4? Not only does Pringles bury the ranch flavor—it is nowhere to be found—they’re holding out on the heat, too! While I can appreciate the flavor for what it is, I can’t forgive these transgressions.
Verdict: If you like Sour Cream & Onion flavored Pringles and could see yourself enjoying a spicy version of them, check these out. But if you’re looking for true ghost pepper-level heat and actual ranch flavor, you may want to pass.
