Well friendos, my predictions were wrong, again. I really thought I had a chance this time, seeing as I literally gave not one, not two, but four very good guesses (three of which weren’t even jokes) as to what this year’s fall Oreo flavor might be. But I guess the Jackson Pollock method (throwing a bunch of ideas at a wall and hoping it becomes something great) of Oreo flavor guessing can only take you so far. It’s a shame, since I was really jonesin’ for a sweet potato casserole and marshmallow Oreo. But alas, the new fall flavor has been announced and it will be… *drumroll sound*… Pumpkin Spice Oreos! (Again!)
Pumpkin Spice Oreos will be here soon, but they certainly aren’t new.
Much like Taylor Swift’s album 1989, and lots of news about Kate Middleton, Pumpkin Spice Oreos were first released in 2014. It was a different time, for sure. They then returned every fall until 2017 when they appeared with different packaging, then left shelves forever. Or so we thought. Five years later and they’re back, coming to stores on August 15, in all of their pumpkin spice glory. Throughout their absence, the public’s love for pumpkin spice flavoring has stayed strong, and I’m certain that that will never change as long as Uggs and white girls and Starbucks exist.
Even though I didn’t predict the return of Pumpkin Spice Oreos, and may never know the power of being a clairvoyant, I will admit (grudgingly) that I am actually kind of excited to try them for the first time (back in 2014 I was a high school kid too busy reading Lord of the Flies to be caught up on Oreo-related news). These Oreos reportedly feature two golden Oreo cookies with a “festive pumpkin spice flavored cream” so… I mean, how could that be bad? Unless the creme tastes fake and not like actual spices, in which case I would have cause to complain. But while reviews of these cookies from five years ago seem a bit mixed, I still have hope for these orange tinged beauties.
And finally, because this is an Oreo article, it’s time for me to guess this year’s holiday Oreo flavor. Their most recent holiday offering was a fudge-dipped plain Oreo, but in the past they’ve also released a winter Oreo (normal but the creme is red), hot cocoa, gingerbread, peppermint bark, peppermint, and candy cane. IMO, they are missing a couple of important holiday flavors in there, namely: eggnog (wouldn’t this be DANK?), cranberry or cranberry orange Oreos (yum), bread pudding, and potato latke (the world’s first oniony Oreo). Let’s see if I’m right this time!
