Taco Bell’s “fan favorite” Shredded Beef Dipping Taco has returned to the menu. The birria-esque taco combines tender slow-braised shredded beef, a three-cheese blend, and creamy jalapeño sauce inside a crispy, grilled cheese-crusted tortilla. It’s paired with a rich, red sauce that soaks into every bite. Though Taco Bell doesn’t flat out say it, many customers liken it to their enchilada sauce that’s always available. The comparison is pretty apt.

How’s the fan reception?
Well, I tried to give you a hint up above by putting fan favorite in quotes. Let’s just say, Reddit isn’t too impressed. While there were a few lone defenders of Taco Bell’s new taco in the comments, most people were piling on to the lackluster review that the original poster had to say.
Admittedly OP’s was egregiously bad considering his Taco Bell used old oil and the wrong type of shell. Others mostly came to the conclusion that it’s not worth the $4.50 price tag (after you have to pay an extra dollar to even get that red sauce that tastes suspiciously like their enchilada sauce). One comment that I’d try to bury if I worked at Taco Bell’s corporate office was “Bro it made me fart like I’ve never farted before.” What a game-ruining review.
What are our thoughts on it?
When we reported on the return of the Shredded Beef Dipping Taco, I think we were pretty optimistic about it. Generally at Sporked, we’re fans of whatever Taco Bell debuts. We may have to skip out on this round. The $1 extra for the recommended sauce alone is enough to get me off the bandwagon. There might still be hope for at least one new item: the accompanying Shredded Beef Nacho Fries.
Now those might still have us hooked. It’s an easy sell. Taco Bell’s iconic nacho fries topped with beef, pico de gallo, a three-cheese blend, additional nacho cheese, and jalapeño sauce. Surely the chefs at Taco Bell can’t mess that up (they still will, somehow).
I won’t fully count Taco Bell out. There was a lot going on in the kitchen that cooked up the shredded beef dipping taco that was posted on Reddit. Maybe someone else out there can redeem it. Perhaps you have the world’s best Taco Bell right down the block from you. If you’re not yet turned off from looking at the picture that OP posted on Reddit, you can be our taste tester. Get down to that glowing, pristine TB and try it for us!
