Does Van Leeuwen’s Sabrina Carpenter Ice Cream Sound Sweet? We Guess So

Espresso. The song’s in your head now isn’t it? Whether or not you like the caffeine-inspired bop, Sabrina Carpenter’s earworm of a single “Espresso” is everywhere this summer. Even if you’ve had your fill of the song (although, who can’t relate to working late as a singer?), Van Leeuwen is betting that you still have an appetite for a creamy bite inspired by it. That’s right, “Espresso” is the song of summer—and it’s about to be the treat of the summer, too.

I’m not talking about the drink, aka patron saint of the sleep deprived. I’m talking about a new Sabrina Carpenter-inspired Van Leeuwen espresso ice cream launching on June 28. Is it that sweet? We guess so!

What can we expect from this Short (lived) N’ Sweet ice cream?

This isn’t just another coffee ice cream, not that coffee ice cream isn’t delicious. Van Leeuwen Espresso features espresso ice cream with chewy brownies, chocolate chips, and fudge swirls, not to mention an image of Carpenter on the container. Now, if you’re wondering how excited I am for this ice cream, just know I’ve spent the last 48 hours listening to “Espresso” on repeat while planning a trip to New York to infiltrate Van Leeuwen HQ to snag an early sample. I’m obviously joking…I was actually listening to NPR. This kind of excitement may seem a bit extreme for an unreleased flavor, but it really just comes from the trust I have in Van Leeuwen. While Van Leeuwen may be known for creating some of the most ambitious ice cream flavors, like Grey Poupon and dill pickle, they are also known for making high quality ice cream in less daring flavors.

The brand appears on a few of our best ice cream lists, including—and this bodes well for the Sabrina Carpenter ice cream—our ranking of the best coffee ice cream. Their Coffee Affogato flavor, which quite literally combines espresso and ice cream, which Sporked editor-in-chief Justine Sterling called “close-your-eyes-and-moan” ice cream. So we already know they can nail espresso-flavored ice cream, and with brownies, chocolate chips, and fudge swirls in the mix, there’s pretty much no way this can be bad.

If the starpower and espresso expertise aren’t enough to get you to the Van Leeuwen website or a Van Leeuwen scoop shop when this flavor drops next week, the brand has also committed to donating 50% of the sale profits to the Ali Forney Center, a NYC-based LGBT+ youth center committed to protecting queer youth from homelessness, meaning you can enjoy your java treat while contributing to an important cause. Until then, we’ll be thinkin’ ’bout it every night.
