Big-box stores like Costco and Sam’s Club can often feel, for some reason, a little bit old-school. We get why: It’s something about being in a literal warehouse while you shop for things. It all feels a bit bare. A bit blank. A bit lacking in passion. Right?

Well, that’s not the case at all – these kinds of stores are always shaking things up. Costco’s had a busy start to the year, changing its food court rules and its membership perks, and bringing in a bunch of new items (including those that are dropping this very week). Sam’s Club isn’t going to be left behind, and it’s also changing some key things that will, it hopes, make your experience better. Here’s what’s going on.

Better Ingredients, Better Discounts, Better Sushi

According to The Takeout, a lot of Sam’s Club’s changes are on the ground floor, ie to do with its products. Perhaps the best long-term change it’s making is to ensure that all of its products are made with its Made Without standard, an initiative that the chain started in 2022, with the intention to remove items like artificial flavors, high-fructose corn syrup, and other controversial ingredients from its foods. There will be an increased emphasis on natural ingredients to provide flavor and color.

Alongside these ingredient changes is a push for fresher food, namely through its sushi. Sam’s Club started making and serving sushi in 2025, and its tiger and dragon rolls quickly earned it a mid-level ranking in our best grocery store sushi list. Now, it’s expanding its range, with options like spicy tuna mango rolls and Korean barbecue chicken spring rolls.

We can also expect to see a bunch of new items hitting its shelves, including a new peanut butter-focused trail mix and new bakery items. To make space for these, Sam’s Club is discontinuing some less popular products – but the good news for you, dear customer, is that when these go, they’ll be heavily marked down. Discounts are pretty much everywhere in its stores at the moment, and they’ll keep coming thick and fast.

An Enhanced Experience

As you might expect (given that it’s 2026, after all), Sam’s Club is focusing heavily on digital solutions over the coming year and beyond. Its Scan & Go feature, which can be accessed through its app, is getting a big push, and Sam’s Club is removing potential friction at its exits by using AI to scan your cart. We know, it’s spooky.

Finally, the retailer is making sure that more people can access its stores than ever by building more of ‘em. There are at least six new warehouses in the works, in Texas, California, and Tennessee, and over the next couple of years, we can expect to see more than two dozen of them pop up. Don’t have a Sam’s Club near you? That could all change pretty soon.
