Shaq can’t stop. Whether it’s breaking backboards or promoting printers, Shaquille O’Neal is eternal. Case in point, late last year, Shaq launched his own line of “XL Gummies” in regular and sour varieties. They must be successful, because less than a year later, I’ve got a Shaq-branded gummy-flavored Slurpee in front of me to review.

I also grabbed a bag of Sour Shaq-a-liciouses to find out how authentic the Slurpee flavor is (we’ll get to that later), and let me tell you—I was not prepared.

New Slurpee Flavor!

Shaq-a-licious XL Gummies Pineapple Slurpee

Pros: Before we talk about the flavor, I have to talk about how this new Slurpee looks. Holy cow, this drink is nuclearly yellow-green. This Slurpee looks like it should glow in the dark. The taste is appropriately “candy” pineapple with a hint of sour. As a certified pineapple enjoyer, I really liked this pineapple Slurpee for being just pineapple. In a world full of Pina Coladas and tropical punches, sometimes it’s nice to get back to basics.

Cons: That said, this is definitely candy pineapple rather than, y’know, actual pineapple. I drink straight pineapple juice pretty often; replacing that natural tartness with artificial sourness isn’t exactly what I want in a frozen pineapple beverage

So, how does this new Shaq Slurpee measure up to the actual candy? While they’re very similar in fruit flavor, the gummy does beat the Slurpee in the field of sour.
