I don’t really keep up with the who’s-who of the internet anymore, but I still somehow know about Alix Earle. Well, I know a little bit. I know she’s an influencer. I know there’s some sort of drama going on between her and Alex Cooper. And now, I know she’s backed a new canned Margarita brand called SIPMARGS. And that’s firmly in the realm of something I’d be interested in. Welcome to being relevant in my life, Alix!

SIPMARGS is a line of sparkling, canned Margaritas backed by the aforementioned Alix Earle as well as Kygo’s Palm Tree Crew (a lifestyle company). The Margs are made with blanco tequila (these aren’t malt beverages), fruit juice, cane sugar, sparkling water, and natural flavors. Each one is 5% ABV (about the same as a standard beer) with just 6 grams of sugar and 130 calories.

Are they any good, though? I tried four SIPMARGS flavors to find out.

SIPMARGS Classic

Classic!

SIPMARGS Classic

Pros: Across the board, these are dry Margaritas. They’re not very sweet at all. I definitely appreciate that. So many canned, sparkling Margaritas taste like Margarita soda. This take on a classic Margarita is super zesty and super dry—to the point where it doesn’t really taste like a traditional Margarita, but more of a plussed-up Tequila Soda.

Cons: As I said, it doesn’t really taste like a Margarita. And it has a bit of that cleaning fluid flavor going on. I’d still drink one of these, but I won’t go out of my way to buy it.

SIPMARGS Coconut
SIPMARGS Coconut

Coconut!

Pros: I didn’t expect to like this one, but it actually turned out to be my favorite of the bunch! It smells like a vacation—that mix of sunscreen and tropical fruit. And it tastes like spring break. It’s tart and tangy with a strong coconut flavor—but not, like, a super sweet coconut flavor. It’s extremely unique. I’ll be cracking one of these open again real soon.

Cons: If you don’t like coconut, you’re definitely not going to like this.

SIPMARGS Mango

Mango!

SIPMARGS Mango

Pros: At least it’s not super sweet.

Cons: It smells fake. It tastes fake. It’s too tangy and too tart—but not even in an unripe mango way. There’s just something off about this Margarita. I’d love for SIPMARGS to take another pass and maybe even lean into a green mango concept. But for the time being, I’d skip this flavor.

SIPMARGS Spicy

Spicy!

SIPMARGS Spicy

Pros: Here’s another dark horse. I thought I knew what this would taste like, I’ve had plenty of Spicy Margaritas in my life. But this is nothing like what I’ve had before. It’s seriously dry—there’s barely any sweetness. And it has a ton of pepper flavor without packing a ton of spice. It’s a Spicy Marg you can actually drink multiple cans of without totally burning through your esophagus.

Cons: If you were hoping for a lot of heat, you’re going to be disappointed. This isn’t really spicy as much as it is spicy flavored. It also doesn’t really have a classic Margarita flavor profile. But that doesn’t stop it from tasting good.

About the Author

Justine Sterling

Hi! I’m the editor-in-chief of Sporked. I will never turn down a fresh-shucked oyster but I’ll also leap at whatever new product Reese’s releases and I love a Tostitos Hint of Lime, even if there is no actual lime in the ingredients. Why you should trust me: I have been writing about food and beverages for well over a decade and am an avid at-home cook and snacker. I began my career writing about fine dining and recipes, moved into cocktails and spirits, and now I talk about groceries. If you can eat it or drink it, I’ve probably written about it. What I buy every week: Trader Joe’s dried okra. Appleton Farms prosciutto from Aldi. Some sort of Trader Joe’s cheese (I’m into the aged gouda at the moment). Frozen waffles (usually the Eggo Cinnamon Toast Minis). Spindrift water (loving the Cosmopolitan right now). Favorite ranking: Smoked salmon. Imagine me as Scrooge McDuck but instead of coins I’m diving into a vault of slippery smoked salmon slices. Pure joy. I also found some real steals in that taste test! Least favorite ranking: Canned oysters. I had such high hopes for this but it quickly became a chore. The kitchen smelled like an uncleaned aquarium.
