Fall is here, and so are the pies. After a summer of eating frozen desserts and bright, citrusy flavors, the cooler weather has ushered in the yearly return to pastry and filling, and life is so much the better for it, in my opinion. But then I love pie, so I would say that. As expected, supermarkets like Costco and Sam’s Club have been restocking their seasonal selections, and we’ll see plenty of pumpkin pie and lattice tops over the coming months.

Where things have been a little quieter, though, is in the frozen section. “Where are the new frozen, ready-to-cook pies, perhaps with a crumb topping and with different fruity fillings, and maybe made by a fruit spread brand?” you’ve surely been asking. Well, don’t worry! We can finally provide the answer, thanks to Smucker’s.

Smucker’s Crumb Pies

The JM Smucker Company, in partnership with Golden West Food Group, is launching a new line of ready-to-bake fruit crumb pies this year, with four flavors to kick things off. The pies are made with real fruit filling, with no artificial dyes or high-fructose corn syrup, in a classic crust and finished with a streusel-like crumb topping. Each pie weighs in at 30 ounces, so there’s enough for a good couple of portions in each one.

In terms of flavors, there’s a mixture of both summer and fall going on here, and Smucker’s is offering:

  • Apple Crumb Pie: A combo of real apple slices and warming spices.
  • Mixed Berry Crumb Pie: Blackberries, strawberries, raspberries, blueberries, and cranberries are all in play here.
  • Cherry Crumb Pie: Bright-red, real sweetened cherries, combined – as they all are – with a crumb topping.
  • Peach Crumb Pie: Have a slice of summer as the weather draws in. Peach filling made with real peaches, in a flaky crust.

Where? And When?

Smucker’s Crumb Pies are launching in select retailers this month, and as @markie_devo states, they’re available now at Food Lion and Food City. Customers should expect to find them at places like Hannaford and Michell Grocers in the coming weeks and months, too – and as the line expands, so will availability across the retailers.

And how do these taste? It’s slightly too early to say; no customer responses or reviews have come in just yet, given that they’ve quite literally just dropped. Smucker’s obviously has previous form with filled dough-based snacks and desserts, though, given that it’s the King of the Uncrustable, so we’d hope it brings that knowledge to bear on these pies.
